Psalm 37:27
27 Depart [cuwr] from evil [ra`], and do [`asah] good [towb]; and dwell [shakan] for
evermore [`owlam]. KJV-Interlinear
27 Turn away from evil and do good; so shall
you dwell forever. ESV
To depart from
evil and do good, is a command. This is something that God expects you to do
right now. But in this life of flesh and blood, in this Devils world, in our
weakness of flesh, how can we obey that command?
And the answer is
very simple if you have been pursuing a daily study.
To dwell, means to
live in a home, to establish a place of residence where you live and function
in your life.
The Levitical
offerings teach all of these conditions. The principles taught in the New
Testament, teach all of these conditions. They are all one and the same, and
have been since the fall of Adam.
In this life we
are flesh and blood and burdened with the sin nature. None of that will go away
until we leave this world and acquire our resurrection body for the next life.
But until then, we
have to function in this life in spite of all of our handicaps and limitations.
God has a plan,
and He made provision for all of our weaknesses and deficiencies.
This Psalm is
addressed to believers in Christ, or people who are saved. It is not addressed
to unbelievers, or people who are not saved.
Salvation, of
course, is the prerequisite for the spiritual life. But once a person has been
saved, then confession becomes the prerequisite for the functioning spiritual
life of the individual Christian.
Therefore, to
depart from evil, requires confession, which places one into fellowship and
therefore free from the sin nature control of their life, and under the control
of the Holy Spirit.
Once you confess,
you depart from evil and you become a resident in fellowship, which is the
functional part of the spiritual life.
And do good,
refers to the production of the functioning spiritual life. Anything and
everything that you do while you are in fellowship, becomes the production of
good. Good, in this regard, means divine good as opposed to human good.
Human good, is the
production of the sin nature, and is typically referred to as wood, hay, and
stubble, or things that are easily destroyed and worthless.
Divine good, or
the production of the spiritual life is typically referred to as gold, silver,
and precious stones, or things that have eternal intrinsic value, and are never
without value.
And dwell forever,
is the expectation that you will live within the boundaries of the functioning
spiritual life, which is a reference to living your life in fellowship with
God.
Therefore, if you
understand the principle of the promised land, which refers to a place of
residence, the place of blessing, the place of peace and security, the place of
a relationship with God. Then, living in fellowship is that spiritual promised
land within the boundaries of your soul during this life, and of course it will
be expanded greatly in the new universe to come.
