Psalm 35:13

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 35:13

13 But as for me, when they were sick [chalah], my clothing [l@buwsh] was sackcloth [saq]: I humbled [`anah] my soul [nephesh] with fasting [tsowm]; and my prayer [t@phillah] returned [shuwb] into mine own bosom [cheyq].   KJV-Interlinear

13 But I, when they were sick— I wore sackcloth; I afflicted myself with fasting; I prayed with head bowed on my chest.   ESV

The speaker now contrasts his attitude and behavior, with that of the general public.  Jesus Christ is the speaker, speaking through the symbolic type, which is David, who wrote this psalm.

But the sentiments are those of Christ.  And of Christ not just when He was here in this world as a man.  But as Christ, since eternity past and throughout history.

Whereas, people have a negative attitude, and a, me first, attitude, God does not.  God has a caring attitude, and never abandons anyone.

While people have harbored bitterness and negative thoughts, selfishness, and arrogance to name just a few attitudes, God has demonstrated deep feelings of grief and compassion, and grace, for those who not only suffer, but for all who suffer because of their own short-comings.

Sackcloth is the dress of mourning and grief.  The bowed head is the posture of humility and courtesy.

And even when Jesus was being tormented and tortured and punished beyond reason, He still had the peoples best interests in mind and felt poorly for all, and never Himself.

Romans 3:17

Romans 3:17

17 And [kai] the way [hodos] of peace [eirene] have [ginosko] they not [ou] known [ginosko]:   KJV-Interlinear

17 and the way of peace they have not known.”  ESV

Refusal or indifference toward a daily Bible study is why people do not know peace, because they do not know doctrine, which is the source of, and path to, peace.

Peace is the opposite of war, the opposite of dissention.  It is the inner tranquility or inner contentment that is without worry, without stress, without uncertainties.

The soul has all of these negatives when it lacks truth.  And the only way to possess truth within ones soul is through a daily study, while in fellowship, and then the repetition of that learning process day in and day out, throughout ones entire life.

And not knowing peace, means that they, or you, or anyone, have not decided to commit yourself to a daily study.

No one can be self-taught. No one can learn without instruction.  No one can learn or grow up spiritually unless they pursue growth by means of Gods spiritual process.

Learning the words does not make spiritual growth.  Bible doctrine has to be inculcated into the soul, in order to become an integral and intimate part of you.

You can go out and buy things, but they are separate and apart from you.  Therefore they can never become a component of your inner self.  They are external and will always be external.

But Bible doctrine incorporates inside of your soul and fuses into your very essence.  But, you have to learn it correctly, and use it correctly.  And those correctly’s mean by means of Gods way, not your way.

Too many people try to take short-cuts and advance in their spiritual life by side stepping Gods learning process.  And short-cuts never work.  Short-cuts are a fools, lazy man way, an excuse to not study.

A daily study takes inner discipline and commitment, and without that, there can be no success.

No success means no peace, and no peace means failure and missing the boat entirely.

Romans 3:16

Romans 3:16

16 Destruction [suntrimma] and [kai] misery [talaiporia] are in [en] their [autos] ways [hodos]:   KJV-Interlinear

16 in their paths are ruin and misery,  ESV

The ways of humanity, continues in this description of misery and destruction.  These verses serve as reminders as well as an education in the depravity of man, versus the righteousness and goodness of God.

God is truth.  Man is not truth.  God is light.  Man is without light.

It is impossible for man to live a life of perfection or direction, when man lacks the required information of truth.

Without truth, there is only speculation, invention, and the false conclusions that result from the absence of truth in life.

Therefore, ignore God, ignore Christ, ignore doctrine and what is left?  Destruction and misery.

Without truth and the knowledge of truth, your destiny is not good and will never be good.

There is only one way to have a good destiny, and that comes only through the knowledge of doctrine, which is the foundation of truth.

Now know this.  Learning scripture is not enough.  Satan can memorize scripture, and most likely knows more scripture than any of us, but it does him no good and is of no value to him.

Doctrine has to be incorporated into the soul by means of learning while in fellowship, which comes by means of confession, in which the Holy Spirit acts as the conduit for the flow of doctrine into and through the human spirit, and thus transferred into the soul through belief.

That forms the foundation and building blocks for the edification of the soul, or the temple, palace, fortress, etc. within the soul.

Your usage of doctrine within your daily life is the production, or the finishing touches of that constructed complex within your soul.

That in turn produces value, intrinsic value, in you, as an integral part of you, which lasts forever.

Therefore, without doctrine you have nothing and will never have anything.  With doctrine you can have everything and more.  But of course you have to realize this, first, and then pursue it.

Isaiah 26:17

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 26:17

17 Like [k@mow] as a woman with child [hareh], that draweth near [qarab] the time of her delivery [yalad], is in pain [chuwl], and crieth out [za`aq] in her pangs [chebel]; so have we been in thy sight [paniym], O LORD [Y@hovah].   KJV-Interlinear

17 Like a pregnant woman who writhes and cries out in her pangs when she is near to giving birth, so were we because of you, O LORD;   ESV

You cannot blame the present generation for the failures of yesterday.  You cannot blame todays generation for the failures of tomorrow.  Each person, just as each generation, is responsible for their own failures.

And the generations of humanity have failed repeatedly throughout history, not because of others, but because of their own failures in the spiritual realm.

Generations fail, God delivers, and then the generations resume right back where they left off, to repeat the failure process over and over again.

The pains of child birth, are used here to symbolize the pains, both internally and externally, of the individual when their spiritual life falls apart.

And spiritual lives fall apart, resulting from the failures of individuals in their spiritual lives, resulting in pains that are beyond description.

And this is a very good description of what one can expect out of life, when God is ignored, when Christ is ignored, when doctrine is ignored.

In other words, if indifference toward doctrine, exists in the life, then misery in great magnitude, is the best you can expect.

Misery does not come upon you instantly nor continue over the long haul, but when it comes, it will not be pleasant.

Isaiah 26:16

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 26:16

16 LORD [Y@hovah], in trouble [tsar] have they visited [paqad] thee, they poured out [tsuwq] a prayer [lachash] when thy chastening [muwcar] was upon them.   KJV-Interlinear

16 O LORD, in distress they sought you; they poured out a whispered prayer when your discipline was upon them.   ESV

The phrase, poured out in prayer, refers to a whispering or a muttering, as in embarrassment or in grumbling.  And so it is with people who ignore God, until they have their backs to the wall, and even then they call upon God as a last resort, or even in their bitterness.

While God calls us to call upon Him, this calling should be in both prosperity as well as in suffering.

Most people, when prosperous, tend to lose their interest in God.  And only when things in life become too dicey, then do we call upon God, if not in desperation.

And oddly enough, when God pours out blessing, we are or become, more distant from Him, and when life pours out cursing, then we direct our attention toward Him, and thus become closer to God, because of our suffering.

And so we are reminded that prayer should come from us toward God, through Christ, and in the Spirit, as a normal part of our day to day life.  And not just when we are in trouble.

Likewise, we are reminded that calling upon God is not only normal but the expected behavior, especially in times of trouble.

But, realize that these verses are contained in the middle of the prophetic discourse from Isaiah, and thus when we notice that in the end times, all prayer will have been forgotten, and especially when the end times grow terrible to the extreme, then people will still not look to God.  This demonstrates the tremendous spiritual dysfunction that will exist in those fateful days.
