Isaiah 30:9

Isaiah 30:9

9 That this is a rebellious [m@riy] people [`am], lying [kechash] children [ben], children [ben] that will ['abah] not hear [shama`] the law [towrah] of the LORD [Y@hovah]:   KJV-Interlinear

9 For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the LORD;   ESV

One of the sure signs of immaturity, is the refusal to listen. And when an immature person refuses to listen, they rebel, they presume that what they already know, is enough, and that they do not need instruction.

The Israelites were referred to as children. And not only referred to as children but referred to as lying children.

The Israelites, as a nation of God, considered themselves the people of God, and as such they presumed themselves as better than everyone else. They presumed that since they had already been chosen, then they did not need instruction, and certainly not from other people.

But they also took on an arrogant air, and refused to listen to God.

Immature people act just like children. They need instruction but often times they refuse to listen. And this was the big problem of the people of Judah.

This is a problem not only of the people back in Isaiah’s day, but for people from generation to generation, and certainly our present generation of people in this world, demonstrate a high level of immaturity. They claim Jesus Christ as their God, or they reject Him altogether, they claim to want Christ, they claim to obey Christ, they say all the right words and make all the proper noises, but most of that is a phony front.

Because in their boasting, they are all talk, as they ignore God’s mandates to listen, to learn, they even ignore the requirement of confession which is paramount for getting into a functional spiritual life.

So, children they are and children they remain, immature, undisciplined, never learning, always boasting, but in reality going nowhere.

And as we will see in the next couple of verses, the only things that a child wants to see and hear and do, are those things which benefit or pleasure them directly, and especially those things that require no effort on their part.

These studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.

And if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever.

To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big time.

But you have to decide to make that commitment.  No one else can study for you.  You have to do that yourself.
