Psalm 25:17

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 25:17

17 The troubles [tsarah] of my heart [lebab] are enlarged [rachab]: O bring thou me out [yatsa'] of my distresses [matsuwqah]. KJV-Interlinear

17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses. NASB

There are only two environments within which we can live.

There is the environment of the world, and then there is the environment of the spiritual.

The current ruler of the world is Satan and his government is called, cosmos diabolicus, and his policy is called, evil.  His mission and purpose is to confuse and distort truth so that his objective in defeating God will be accomplished.  We are pawns and we are expendable in that effort.

For every principle of truth there is a counter principle of evil.  And actually, for every principle of truth there are several counter principles of evil.

In the world, if you do not have doctrine operating in your soul, then you have evil operating in your soul.  And more than likely, you have a combination of both, but your tendency will be in the direction of evil.

For example, you know the difference between right and wrong.  Understanding right from wrong is a principle of truth, but when you operate in life without a functional spiritual life, then your views will be skewed toward the carnal and evil aspects of life.

Sooner or later you can be or will be swayed to compromise your truth principles and water them down with evil views.

And so, we have our current verse.

Troubles of the heart, refers to the various difficulties that the world will impose on each of us.  Troubles do not necessarily have to be bad things.  You can be very wealthy and your troubles will be of a different nature than those of a poor person.

With wealth you can believe that you do not need God.  You may spend your time working overtime to keep what you have and trying to get more.  You may or may not be generous.  You may or may not be empathetic toward others. You may or may not have social or health or other problems.

But in any case, you will have troubles of one sort or another.

As a poor person or someone that is less than wealthy, which probably includes most of the rest of us, then our troubles come from all directions.

And when you combine the phrase, ‘troubles of my heart,’ with the phrase, ‘out of my distresses,’ then you combine one trouble with another.

When a person focuses on a problem, then other problems begin to settle up next to that one problem and then the natural laws of association take control and our problems begin to overwhelm us.  And this all leads to a downward spiral into many mental problems, such as distress, anxiety, worry, sorrow, poor me, fear, various phobias can enter into the mix, and with all of these potential negatives, then you can see that life can get really messed up.

Bring me out, then is the plea to God to help prevent these things from taking over our life.

And God does help.  He helps with doctrine, and more specifically your knowledge of doctrine, or doctrine in your soul.

Bible doctrine is the building and finishing material of the soul.  Without it, you are on your own and no one and nothing, not wealth, not drugs, not booze, not even hustle, nothing can help you.

Review the first part of this chapter and see how all of these things are coming together to help you see and understand the importance of doctrine, for it is truly the substance and resource and support for life.

Galatians 3:27

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Galatians 3:27

27 For [gar] as many of you as [hosos] have been baptized [baptizo] into [eis] Christ [Christos] have put on [enduo] Christ [Christos]. KJV-Interlinear

27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. NASB

Baptism here is not a water baptism, for washing any or all of the body with water does not affect salvation, for it is a part of the works process described by the Levitical Law.

We remember that anything that any person can do as a form of human effort, is works, and human works is not a part of salvation.

But here, this baptism is noted as a category of humanity, and not a sub-category of Christians.  This is not saying that some Christians are baptized and some are not.

What Paul has already said in the prior verses, is that ‘all’ who have believed, for that is what faith is, are children of God, all who have faith, which is the thought process of believing, are the sons of God.  And the word for ‘all’ means just that. All have obtained salvation by means of faith, and there is not some other add-on to faith.

This is not faith plus baptism, not faith plus raising ones hands, not faith plus witnessing, not faith plus anything else.

To add anything to faith is adding works, and works is a dead thing.  Faith is life and so why would anyone add a dead thing to life?

All are ‘in Christ’ and so now we have the explanation of just what baptism really is, and at the same time, what it is not.

Baptism occurs simultaneously with faith.  At the moment when you believed in Christ, you were immediately baptized, in Christ.  In other passages that we have studied, we know that it is the Holy Spirit who affects this spiritual baptism.

Water or other worldly means of baptism are teaching aids, just as the Law and its ritual sacrifices were teaching aids to teach the spiritual principles of truth including Christs work for our salvation (death, burial, and resurrection).

Thus the guardian function of instruction in order to bring people to Christ, by faith.

Likewise, when you first believed, you not only were baptized, but you ‘put on’ Christ.  And to put on something is like putting on a new set of clothes, but in this case, your clothes are the salvation clothes of eternal life.

Your corruptible clothing of this world is removed and your incorruptible clothing, of the soul, replaces it, permanently.

And as we will see, all believers are now saved, all believers are first born sons, all believers have the same new clothing.  This eliminates all worldly differences amongst us such as race, color, culture, gender and so forth, and retains within each of us, our individual personality and individuality.

Galatians 3:26

26 For [gar] ye are [este] all [pas] the children [huios] of God [theos] by [dia] faith [pistis] in [en] Christ [Christos] Jesus [Iesous]. KJV-Interlinear

26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. NASB

Children of God is a reference to not just any child, but to sons, and not just any son, but the first born son.

The whole point of Pauls subject here is that as a child, as in this example from these previous verses, the child is under the watch of another, under the scrutiny of another, subject to the constraints and restraints and punishments that are imposed on him while he is growing up and while he is under the watch and control of his guardian.

But, when a child comes of age, then he advances out from under the constraints and control of a guardian, and enters into the privileges of an heir.

This is a new period of freedom under which the child is no longer under the requirements or restraints or demands of the former guardian.

The guardian is of course the Law, which restrains and imposes severe punishments if not followed to the letter.   And no one can come even close to compliance with the Law.

The Law, which is the Mosaic Law, sets forth the requirements of a godlike perfect life.  No one can do that.  And since all fail in perfection, then imperfection is imposed and imperfection is not compatible with God, thus the Lake of Fire, or eternal separation from God and heaven.

However, faith provides a way out of that dilemma.

With faith, we are not only, no longer children of corruption, but we are children of God.  And not only children of God, but first born sons, as it were.

Historically, the first born son would receive the inheritance and even a double portion of an inheritance. The first born son is first in line for inheritance and privilege within the family structure.

Now, there is no longer a distinction of race, or color, or gender, or culture, or anything of a worldly nature.  We, who have believed in Christ, are all first born sons, family of God.

And this is by means of faith which is the result of Gods work, not ours

Isaiah 13:7ues

7 Therefore shall all hands [yad] be faint [raphah], and every man's ['enowsh] heart [lebab] shall melt [macac]: KJV-Interlinear

7 Therefore all hands will fall limp,And every man's heart will melt. NASB

And what would you expect the result would be for those who are in the trenches so to speak, and then hear at first and then see an armada, a huge charging army or armies in unbelievable numbers, coming straight for them?

And that is the result of the previous verse.

The enemies of God are on planet earth.  They are engaged in the last great war of the Tribulation, which we call Armageddon. There is death and destruction all around.

For the prior seven years these people have seen the world disintegrate into total disaster after disaster.

You can read the Revelation study for a greater in depth description of what people will be thinking during that time.

And here it is emphasized with just a little detail.

Hands will faint or fall limp, and hearts will melt away in helplessness and hopelessness and utter defeat.

The anxiety and terror will be at its extreme in those final minutes, when Christ and all that follow Him, come charging through the heavens and descend into the clouds.

And of course we know that only Christ will descend to and touch the ground.  The rest of us who will be in that vast army, will remain in the clouds to observe, making such a noise, that it will be deafening to all who are on the planet.

Isaiah 13:6ues

6 Howl [yalal] ye; for the day [yowm] of the LORD [Yahovah] is at hand; [qarowb] it shall come [bow'] as a destruction [shod] from the Almighty. [Shadday]KJV-Interlinear

6 Wail, for the day of the Lord is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty. NASB

Howl is not attached to any subject, but implied to those who will benefit from the destruction that is about to fall on Babylon.

The citizens of Babylon will not howl for they will not believe that their time is up.

The citizens of Israel will not howl, for if they are in hiding they will not want to reveal their position, nor will they even know the day of judgment.

Thus the howling comes from the armies of heaven that will accompany Christ when He returns at the second advent.

Howl, ‘yalal,’ here means to wail, to yell, to howl with a boisterous animated energetic lively rowdy attitude.

Those who are to be destroyed will not be animated in a joyful howling.  Those who are to be rescued will not howl until after they have been rescued.

But this prophecy is one of impending destruction against Babylon, or the power to the north.  And it is the invading armies that will be charging in from heaven and howling with the war cry of attacking soldiers.

And when you consider the vast numbers of Christ’s armies, the angels, all believers from the Church Age who will have already received their resurrection bodies at the Rapture which would have been seven years prior to the second advent, then the numbers of people and angels who will be yelling as they charge, will be in the billions or even trillions of beings.

That will make for a lot of noise, that to anyone on earth will or should be, terrified at the approaching armies from heaven.

Isaiah 13:5ues

5 They come [bow'] from a far [merchaq] country, ['erets] from the end [qatseh] of heaven, [shamayim] even the LORD, [Yahovah] and the weapons [kaliy] of his indignation, [za`am] to destroy [chabal] the whole land. ['erets] KJV-Interlinear

5 They are coming from a far country From the farthest horizons, The Lord and His instruments of indignation, To destroy the whole land. NASB

They, is a reference to the Lord and His host of armies, who are coming to destroy Babylon.

They come from a far country.  And in our passage, which is in reference to the Second Advent as we know it, that far country is not on this planet, but heaven itself.

And the text is expanded, even from the end of heaven, even the Lord.

This is no earthly army, no earthly general or king, no earthly country or collection of countries.

The weapons of His indignation, is a reference to Bible doctrine, truth, righteousness, justice, Gods divine plan.

And the reason for His coming, is to destroy a land that is thoroughly corrupt, and has been getting progressively more and more corrupt over the time of all of human history.

The whole land, means a total and complete destruction of all that was and is evil.  There will not be a single evil person remaining alive, as well as not a single earthly building or shrine or anything in which that man has placed his trust or pride, left standing.

Psalm 25:16

Copyright Ó 2013 J. Neely
Psalm 25:16

16 Turn [panah] thee unto me, and have mercy [chanan] upon me; for I am desolate [yachiyd] and afflicted. [`aniy] KJV-Interlinear

16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, For I am lonely and afflicted. NASB

Turn to me, is a request that God turns His attention exclusively to me.

Often times when problems become too great, then turning to God is a natural reaction and of course you want God to focus His attention exclusively on you, at least for that moment, so that He can see your trouble and then do something about it.

This is of course from your point of view, and it is a natural and normal desire to have Gods attention on yourself.

Mercy is grace in action. Grace is Gods policy of divine favor for the believer.  Mercy is the action of providing some activity which fulfills that favor.  It is one thing to have Gods favor, but it is quite another and better thing to have something actually done for you.

Desolate means only, solitary, alone, and here it indicates the human condition which is really the status of each individual in this world.  Despite how many people are around you, despite how many friends you have or how many people you interact with, your soul is the real you and your soul is separate and apart from everyone else.

It is within your own soul that you have to live your life.  You were born into this world by yourself, from your souls perspective, even though you have no personal memories of your own, of that event.  And one day you will die and leave this world and that will be your last personal and private and alone event in which no one can accompany you.

Throughout life you have many individual events in which you have to make decisions.  Certainly you can get advice and seek the counsel of others, but in the end you have to make your own decisions, and then live with them.  And regardless of whether you have someone to complain to or blame, that is irrelevant because regardless of who or what your circumstances might be, you still have to face life from the perspective of your own individual soul, and that makes you alone in this world.

God is of course your best partner option for eliminating the aloneness of your life.

Afflicted is the sum total of whatever problems or burdens you have in life.  From birth to death you will face numerous obstacles at every stage in your life. And you can face them alone by simply leaving God out of the equation, or you can face your challenges and such, with Gods help.

Ignore or be indifferent toward God and your true state in life is one of aloneness.  There is no one and nothing in this world that can enter into your soul and eliminate your aloneness status.

A daily study and the resultant doctrine within your soul brings Gods presence into your soul and thus makes you not alone in this life.
