Isaiah 30:14

Isaiah 30:14

14 And he shall break [shabar] it as the breaking [sheber] of the potters [yatsar]' vessel [nebel] that is broken in pieces [kathath]; he shall not spare [chamal]: so that there shall not be found [matsa'] in the bursting [m@kittah] of it a sherd [cheres] to take [chathah] fire ['esh] from the hearth [yaqad], or to take [chasaph] water [mayim] withal out of the pit [gebe].KJV-Interlinear

14 and its breaking is like that of a potter’s vessel that is smashed so ruthlessly that among its fragments not a shard is found with which to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.”   ESV

Isaiah continues describing the destruction of Judah. They will eventually be overrun and destroyed by the nation of Assyria, but that destruction will continue through the Babylonian invasion, followed by the Persian invasion, followed by the Greek invasion, followed by the Roman occupation.

And then in 70 A.D., when the Romans finally obliterated the temple in Jerusalem and all of Judah, the nation finally ceased to exist.

Isaiah was referring to the imminent destruction coming from Assyria, because the Israelites had been and were negative toward God and the Scriptures for a long time. And so the warning comes, that when you ignore God, who is truth, then you ignore truth, and when you ignore truth, your own destruction is inevitable.

And not only will they be destroyed as a nation, but the destruction will be thorough.

Isaiah describes the residue of the nation as that of pottery that has been thrown down and broken apart, and smashed, such that there will not be even a piece of pottery left that is large enough to carry a piece of coal from a fire, or to carry water from a well.

This principle applies to the nation of Judah, back in Isaiah’s day, and it also applies to every individual who has ever lived in history.

Rejection or indifference toward the word of God in ones life, will produce nothing but misery and suffering and loss.

And that misery, suffering, and loss do not have to apply during ones life, but certainly will apply at the end of ones life.
