Romans 5:6

Romans 5:6

6 For [gar] when we [hemon] were [on] yet [eti] without strength [asthenes], in due [kata] time [kairos] Christ [Christos] died [apothnesko] for [huper] the ungodly [asebes].   KJV-Interlinear

6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.   ESV

Without strength, ‘asthenes,’ means to be without ability, to be sick, feeble, diseased beyond recovery.

And so, in the previous verse, God gave us the Holy Spirit.  That is, we were given access to the Holy Spirit such that the Holy Spirit indwells each and every believer, from the moment we first believed in Christ.  For many, that could have been while you were a young child.  You probably do not remember when you first believed in Christ. But at whatever age you believed in Christ, that is when your salvation became a reality for you, and that is when the Holy Spirit indwelled you.

Actually all three members of the Godhead indwell every believer, from the very first moment of your belief.  But that is another study.

Now the next item mentioned by Paul, is the gift of the Son, to us, in our place, so that we could actually have a salvation, or reconciliation back with God.

So, note, that the Son is a policy and a plan.

Jesus Christ as God, was never born.  He has always existed since eternity past.

Jesus the man, was born as is the nature of every human being in this world.  He is both God and man.

The plan wherein God gave His Son, was designed way back in eternity past.  The significance of this is that man and angel, both in arrogance presume that they can become equal with God and meet face to face with God on an equal basis.

But that is not possible.  Neither man nor angel are equal with God, nor can they dictate how history or life is going to be.

Satan rejected this plan.  He wanted to sit at the right hand of the Father, which was the rightful place of Christ.  So even Satan and the angels rejected Gods plan and therefore rejected Christ.

We too, cannot approach the Father except through Christ.  Going through Christ is the plan and the rule.  All religions reject this when they presume that they can become one with the universe, one with nature, one with God, one with themselves and so forth.  These are all rejections of Christ, who is the rightful and designated heir.

And, when man was without strength, meaning lost and without hope, then Christ was the one who came to our rescue.  No one else did that.  No one else could do that.  Nothing and no one, could accomplish what Christ accomplished on the Cross.

The ungodly refers to all people.  We are all sinners, through and through.  And, Christ paid the price of sin and defeated death for every human being who has and will ever, live in history.

But note, that His sacrifice and payment, did not save everyone automatically.

He paid the price, but there is now the problem of forgiveness.  Forgiveness was not accomplished on the Cross, but the Cross paved the way for forgiveness.

So, man has to believe in Christ, which is to say that we in effect see our sins, acknowledge our sins, and by believing in Christ, we accept that He did what He did for us, because of our sinful and weakened condition.

That acknowledgement is in effect our very first initial confession. Father I believer in Jesus Christ.

Note that all prayer is directed to the Father.

So, when you first believed in Christ, you confessed your transgressions, whether you knew that or not.  That gained you not only salvation, but put you in fellowship immediately.

But as the story goes, as they say, we all sin sooner or later, and that is where confession comes into play.

Commit a sin and you are out of fellowship, or out of righteousness. So, 1 Jn 1:9, states that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and restore us from all unrighteousness.

That is, from unrighteousness to righteousness.  We simply can this from out of fellowship to being back into fellowship.

Being in fellowship is the place where your spiritual life functions.

And note that this confession is for believers only.  It is never for unbelievers.  Confession does not save, only faith in Christ saves.

So as a part of the spiritual life, which exists from the very first moment you believed in Christ and for the rest of your life, confession is necessary for you to have a functional and productive spiritual life.

Not learning this is why most believers fail in their spiritual life.

Therefore, there is no shame in anything in this life with regard to ones faith.  We have the Father who authored the plan, the Son who executed the plan, and the Spirit who communicates and sustains the plan.

And through this, we become aware of the plan and oriented to reality and all of life, and that builds confidence, therefore no shame or embarrassment.

Shame and embarrassment will rightfully go to those who ignore the truth, remain indifferent toward the truth, or reject it altogether.

These studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.

And if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever.
