Isaiah 30:7

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 30:7

7 For the Egyptians [Mitsrayim] shall help [`azar] in vain [hebel], and to no purpose [riyq]: therefore have I cried [qara'] concerning this [zo'th], Their [hem] strength [rahab] is to sit still [shebeth].   KJV-Interlinear

7 Egypt’s help is worthless and empty; therefore I have called her “Rahab who sits still.”   ESV

The word for strength, rahab, refers to ferocity, haughtiness, boasting, insolence, and herein refers to Egypt, which boasts a lot but does nothing.

Isaiah repeats the same thing that he is already said, which is that placing Israel’s trust in Egypt is the same as placing trust in nothing.

Egypt was once a great nation prior to the Exodus. But after the Exodus and the Egyptian disaster at the Red Sea, that nation went into a tremendous decline, which they never really recovered from, at least not to the extent of their pre-Exodus empire.

So Isaiah uses the word rahab, to indicate a double meeting with respect to a nation that boasts a lot based on their former glory, but in reality was nothing more than an insolent paper tiger.

The principle, since Egypt represents the world, and sin, and defiance against the God of Israel, who is Jesus Christ, is that in any attempt to look to the world for ones meaning and purpose, for ones prosperity and safety, is nothing more than the pursuit of emptiness.

Egypt could do nothing for Israel. The world can do nothing for the individual.

Bible doctrine, which is the written word representing Christ, is the only source of safety and prosperity, and everything else that is meaningful in this world.

Unfortunately, too many people boast in their own understanding, and refuse to listen to correct instruction. And that of course is why people who refuse to listen and learn, fail.

Psalm 37:26

Psalm 37:26

26 He is ever [yowm] merciful [chanan], and lendeth [lavah]; and his seed [zera`] is blessed [B@rakah].   KJV-Interlinear

26 He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing. ESV

He, is a reference to the spiritually mature believer. And one of the foundation characteristics of the mature believer is that he is kind, and tolerant, and merciful, empathetic and sympathetic toward others, without bias or prejudice or reservation in any way shape or form.

Lend, is a reference to unselfish generosity.

Seed, is a reference to both the production of his labor and activities of life, as well as his children and family.

Those around the spiritually mature believer are blessed by association.

There are many benefits of being a spiritually mature believer, but also, many benefits and blessings flowing to the mature believer, continue on and flow through the mature believer, such that it affects or has an impact, on others.

This can affect his family, his employment, his friends or neighbors, and even strangers to some extent, such as in a nation. Entire nations are blessed when there are enough Christians within the nation. Prosperity flows to the Christians and thus to the nation. And even if there are unbelievers within the nation, the prosperity of an economy provides jobs and opportunity for everyone.

And so the impact of a single spiritually mature believer can be far-reaching. The impact of a nation of spiritually mature believers, which has never existed, by the way, would be phenomenal.

Psalm 37:25

Psalm 37:25

25 I have been young [na`ar], and now am old [zaqen]; yet have I not seen [ra'ah] the righteous [tsaddiyq] forsaken [`azab], nor his seed [zera`] begging [baqash] bread [lechem].   KJV-Interlinear

25 I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread.   ESV

Many will criticize this verse unfairly, because they do not read it correctly. The key to this verse is in the word righteous, tsaddiya, which means just and lawful. And, if on the one hand there are righteous people, then on the other hand, in contrast, there are unrighteous people.

So the meaning of this verse rests in the definition of the word righteous.

We have already seen in other studies, that the word wicked applies to anyone who lives a pattern of their life outside of God’s will.

That includes believers and unbelievers alike.

Understanding how it applies to unbelievers is easy, since they have not believed in Christ, and therefore have not received credit for the righteousness of God, in their life.

Believers on the other hand, have received the righteousness of God, but believers have additional requirements, responsibilities, and obligations, to live their life accordingly. And the pattern of their spiritual life, demands that they live their life in accordance with God’s mandates for the spiritual life.

God’s mandates are very simple. Once a person has believed in Christ they are saved forever. But they are also expected to grow up in the spiritual life, which means their spiritual life has to be a functional spiritual life. And a functional spiritual life requires confession of sin in order to live in fellowship, which is the environment in which the spiritual life functions.

The legal requirements for righteousness or twofold. First the individual has to be saved by believing in Christ. That is a given.

The second requirement, is that they must advance to spiritual maturity, which is the process of spiritual completion of one’s life.

Therefore, the righteous person is one who has fulfilled or is pursuing both of these prerequisites.

And this verse applies to the believer who is advancing in their spiritual life.

David was old when he wrote this Psalm. He had the advantage of hindsight and looking back on his life, as well as the history of the people around him for the many decades prior.

He saw the wealthy and the poor. He saw those who were positive towards Bible doctrine, and God, and the Savior, and the responsibilities and obligations expected from the spiritual life. And he also saw those people who were negative towards Bible doctrine, and God, and the Savior, and the responsibilities and obligations of the spiritual life which they ignored or neglected, or took for granted.

Blessings pour out from God onto spiritually advancing believer.

Therefore, if an individual is positive towards God, positive towards Christ, positive towards learning Bible doctrine through instruction, and is genuinely and legitimately pursuing their spiritual life, without pretense and without a phony agenda, then God’s blessing is on the menu for their life.

This does not mean there won’t be hardships along the way, but this does mean that no matter what the difficulties the spiritually mature believer encounters in life, then God will provide for those difficulties and get them through them.

As for the negative believer, then if that person chooses to live their life in the same way that unbelievers live their life, then they have no right to expect blessings from God, when they in fact ignore God.

The choice of how your life will be is always up to you.

This is the devil’s world. And you will face difficulties, trials, tribulations, burdens, and hard times, sooner or later in your life.

With God, you will have a way through any and all of them.

Without God, you are on your own.

And you always have the choice of which type of life you want to live.

Romans 5:10

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 5:10

10 For [gar] if [ei], when we were [on] enemies [echthros], we were reconciled [katallasso] to God [theos] by [dia] the death [thanatos] of his [autos] Son [huios], much [polus] more [mallon], being reconciled [katallasso], we shall be saved [sozo] by [en] his [autos] life [zoe].   KJV-Interlinear

10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.   ESV

This verse makes it very clear, that if God went to such a great length to pay for our sins while we were enemies of God, then how much more will He do for us now that we are family of God.

In eternity past, God drew up the plan, which we call the divine decrees, and that was long before we even existed as human beings.

When Adam and Eve sinned and fell from grace, God gave them the promise of a Savior.

About 4000 years passed by before Jesus was born into this world, and went to the cross to purchase salvation for all of humanity.

There were a lot of generations that had come and gone prior to the cross. And there have been a lot of generations that have come and gone since the time of the cross. And, we’re still in the era of human history where people are being born and living and dying. And that will continue until the rapture occurs, and until the tribulation is completed, and throughout the millennial reign of Christ.

Then and only then will human history come to an end and the birth of new babies will cease.

God looked down through the tunnel of time since the divine decrees, all the way to the end of human history, and saw every person and every sin that would ever exist. And God laid out a plan that would save all of humanity, which plan, called for the personal sacrifice of Christ in our behalf.

And all of this while we were, as it were, enemies of God.

So the rhetorical question being asked is, if God would do all of that while we were enemies, then how much more would He do for us, when we are now His family?

The death of Christ was an extremely high price to pay.

The life of Christ is infinitely greater in value.

So Christ in death, did infinitely more for us while we were enemies, and in life He does infinitely more again for us.

So the value of our salvation is beyond calculation. Likewise, the value of our blessings after salvation and after spiritual growth to maturity is again infinitely further beyond calculation.

The question leads to another question. What is all of this worth to you?
