Psalm 38:16
16 For I said ['amar], Hear
me, lest otherwise they should rejoice [samach] over me: when my foot [regel] slippeth [mowt], they magnify [gadal] themselves against me. KJV-Interlinear
16 For I said, “Only let them not rejoice
over me, who boast against me when my foot slips!” ESV
People are at
their worst when they pretend or refuse to forgive, and people are certainly at
their very worst when they refuse to let you forget your mistakes, and prefer
to remind you so that you won’t forget your mistakes. All the while ignoring their
own flaws.
But such is the
way of the world.
Within the realm
of the sin nature, there is always the drive of inordinate competition, and the
drive to control. And what better way to control someone else, than to remind
them of their flaws and mistakes.
Everyone who has
ever lived in this world, has made mistakes.
No one has the
right to judge anyone else, unless they themselves are perfect, which no one
is.
And the plea or
prayer here, is that those who would superimpose themselves over us, and even
try to rejoice over our failures or flaws, and even try to elevate themselves
because of our flaws, will themselves not have the advantage or benefit from
their judgmental and controlling attitude against us.
And the answer to the
prayer, is that God is the ultimate and sovereign judge, and people are not.
People who judge
others, in effect judge themselves.
People who attempt
to elevate themselves as the better, will always lose, will always fail, and
will themselves be guilty of far worse than any flaw or mistake that you have
committed or that they remind you of.
