Isaiah 31:5

Isaiah 31:5

5 As birds [tsippowr] flying [`uwph], so will the LORD [Yahovah] of hosts [tsaba'] defend [ganan] Jerusalem [Yaruwshalaim]; defending [ganan] also he will deliver [natsal] it; and passing over [pacach] he will preserve [malat] it.   KJV-Interlinear

5 Like birds hovering, so the LORD of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it; he will spare and rescue it.”  ESV

Isaiah uses a second illustration of God protecting his people, by using the example of the bird flying over her nest, with speed and agility, by out maneuvering, and leading or driving her enemies away, and thus protecting her young ones.

While the lion is the power and force to reckon with on the ground, the bird has speed and altitude and quickness with which to deal with an enemy from the air.  In all cases, all enemies are out-matched.

And therefore God provides protection from all levels and from all directions. His protection is thorough and complete.

And while delivering or defending believers, who belong to Him, God passes over, in the same sense of the principles taught in the Passover feasts, and protects Christians, of which are both Jew and Gentile, and preserves them not only from enemies without, but also from enemies within, meaning themselves.

Often time believers are their own worst enemies, and through discipline and guidance, God can correct and protect at the same time.

These principles apply to every person who has believed in the Savior, namely Jesus Christ, whether they referred to His formal name, or to His title and role in Gods plan, throughout all of human history.

But one of the more important principles that is being taught here, is that this protection will become one of the most important principles that people in the tribulation, will have to rely on. Because it is they who will be facing the worst onslaught in all of human history, in that future time.

And through all of the blistering attacks that will come against Jerusalem in that future day, and with all of the weapons and firepower that they might have at their disposal, it will be faith, and faith alone, that will determine the outcome of that future battle.

And often times in our own individual lives, despite all of our resources, or lack of them, and despite all of the barriers and hardships that we will face in life, our own preservation and survival depends on faith.

But one of the most important things to remember, is that whatever resources you have, which God provided, you are expected to use. You don’t throw everything away and sit down and do nothing, for that would mean certain defeat and failure. But what you do, is use whatever resources you have at your disposal, plus faith, and faith will tilt the battle in your favor.
