Romans 4:25
25 Who [hos] was delivered [paradidomi] for [dia] our [hemon] offences [paraptoma], and [kai] was raised again [egeiro]
for [dia] our [hemon] justification [dikaiosis]. KJV-Interlinear
25 who
was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification. ESV
Four things occurred in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
First there is the judgment of sin. This occurred while He was hanging on the
Cross, beginning and noon on Passover day, and lasting for three hours. The day turned dark and judgment was executed
against Christ, in our behalf. This paid the price of sin.
When the judgment was over, He declared it was
finished and that made way of the second event, which was His physical death. That occurred and then He was taken to the
grave where he laid for three days and three nights, after the pattern of
Jonah.
Then after the three days, He arose, the third event. This is the victory over death.
And then the fourth event which came a little later,
He ascended, and this is the ultimate victory and the fulfillment of Gods
promise to us that we too, will ascend into heaven and forever be with the
Lord.
But the resurrection and ascension could not take
place until sin and death and been cleared out of the way.
The cross was where the payment occurred, and the
resurrection was the completion of that victory over death and the resulting justification
of us.
The punishment was part of the work, and the
resurrection was the completion of that work, for Jesus Christ had to rise up
again in order to complete His work on the Cross.
This proves His power and authority over death.
In order for His work to be complete and correct, it
had to be acceptable to the Father, who authored the entire plan. And the resurrection is proof that the Father
approved and accepted as complete, the entire work of Christ.
Nothing and no one else, has that acceptance, or
proof, or work.
