Psalm 37:13
13 The Lord ['Adonay] shall
laugh [sachaq] at him: for he seeth [ra'ah] that his day [yowm] is
coming [bow'].
KJV-Interlinear
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he
sees that his day is coming. ESV
The Lord, ‘Adonay,’
is a reference to the specific God of Israel, namely the Son, whom we now call
Jesus Christ, but here the term ‘Adonay,’ is a recognition of His sovereign authority
over all that exists.
Laughs, is a reference
to Gods view of mans empty efforts.
Man will try and
try again, his own methods of elbowing his way through life.
All of mans
efforts are a struggle against certain failure.
In arrogance, man
tries to accomplish on his own, that which God controls.
Man has no control
over himself let alone the entire universe, and especially the laws and rules
that govern this universe and all that is in it.
Remember that God
created the universe out of nothing. And that means that all of the rules and
laws, so called, of the universe, are also a part of the definition and design
of God.
So, when God
eventually destroys this universe and creates a new one, then it stands to
reason that there will be a new set of rules for that new and better universe.
Man, has so many
limitations, that assuming that he can do as he pleases while ignoring God and
ignoring truth, and the inevitable end of his life as well as the end of this
universe, would seem to make any onlooker, amazed at the repeated futility of
mans efforts in this regard.
God gives us all
the information that we need in order to get through this life.
But man wants to
define his own rules, his own religion, his own destiny, his own environment,
and all of that is totally impossible.
People focus on
this life now, and only on this life now, as though whatever it is that they
are doing, will last forever. They try
to make the world better, but in so doing, make it worse. They try to regulate society, but that only
places the burdens of regulations on society.
And the worst of it all, they try to re-invent their individual
obligations and responsibilities in life, while ignoring the obligations and
responsibilities which God has laid out for each of us.
In the end, there is
nothing left but to laugh at the futility and empty efforts of everyone.
Because, in the
end, everyone is going to leave this world, and everyone is going to face
Jesus, one way or another, and all of history is going to come to an end.
What occurs after
that is going to be better for those who prepare for it, and not so good for
those who not prepare.
And even the
preparation is based on Gods process, not mans, on what God wants you to do in
order to be ready, not based on what you presume that you need to do for being
ready.
