Isaiah
29:10
10 For the LORD [Y@hovah] hath
poured out [nacak] upon you the spirit [ruwach] of deep sleep [tardemah],
and hath closed [`atsam] your eyes [`ayin]: the prophets [nabiy'] and
your rulers [ro'sh], the seers [chozeh] hath he covered [kacah]. KJV-Interlinear
10 For the LORD has poured out
upon you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes (the prophets), and
covered your heads (the seers). ESV
Now take note.
When you ignore Gods mandates to learn doctrine, then you are in effect condemning
yourself to the extreme dangers of spiritual oblivion. And even though this term may not mean
anything to you, it is a condition that you should not want, because it is
extremely dangerous, personally, for you.
In Ephesians, we studied the scar tissue of the soul.
And if you recall, or unless you do not know, the soul
has to be fed nourishing food. Bible doctrine
is that nourishing food. Anything else,
or rather the lack of doctrine, means the soul will starve.
But worse than starving, the unhealthy soul develops a
scarring tissue which grows over the soul. This scar tissue, in effect, blacks
out the soul. And when blacked out, then
there is no light allowed through, and no light means no truth, and no truth,
means death.
Pharaoh is the example given with regard to the person
who defies God, rejects God, and then eventually dies.
In the first six plagues, it was Pharaoh himself, who
refused. The Bible states that he hardened his heart. Then in the last four plagues it was God who
hardened Pharaohs heart. God kept
Pharaoh around to make a point. That
when a person is anti-God, then they will destroy themselves, and only God can
keep them here beyond their appointed limit.
But here, we have another principle, that of the deep
sleep.
This is not a sleep as when one goes to bed, but a
sleep of ignorance, or the absence of knowledge. When knowledge is not present, then stupidity
prevails. And when knowledge is not
present in society, then stupidity reigns and runs rampant, from top to bottom
of the social structure. The wise are
stupid and the ignorant are stupid. The
high born are stupid and the low born are stupid.
It is a sleep and an ignorance that truly blinds
people, such that they do not see the realities around them, cannot figure out
solutions to the existing problems, and anything they try, fails miserably.
The end result is disaster, suffering and death. And it is not pleasant.
