Isaiah 5:13

Isaiah 5:13

13 Therefore my people [`am] are gone into captivity, [galah] because they have no knowledge: [da`ath] and their honourable [kabowd] men [math] are famished, [ra`ab] and their multitude [hamown] dried up [tsicheh] with thirst. [tsama'] KJV-Interlinear

13 Therefore My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge; And their honorable men are famished, And their multitude is parched with thirst.  NASB

My people are gone into captivity, is a phrase speaking of a future event as though it were happening in the current time.  This makes the event certain, for the statement of an occurrence makes it so.

My people are the people of God, believers who have gone negative and have chosen the life of indulgence and frivolity.

And they are all gone because they rejected doctrine.  They did not know doctrine because they did not learn it.  They did not learn it because they were neither interested nor impressed with the threats of God.

People who reject truth are wise in their own eyes, clever in their own thinking.  They believe that they know better, and can do better, and have no need of anything higher than they.

And this applies not only to the generation of Isaiah’s time when they will one day face the onslaught of the Babylonian armies, but it will certainly apply to the last days of history, when the entire world has gone negative to the greatest of apostasies of all of history.

But, it also applies today and to every generation on an individual basis, when people give lip service to God, but never commit themselves to a daily study of doctrine.  It is far easier to post cute little remarks on an internet page, but it takes more commitment to actually take up a daily study and commit ones daily life to Gods mandates, as God requires.

In just a few verses this type of frivolous front is condemned and the repercussions of that non-commitment are very dramatic.  That drama is generally not realized until after death and then it is too late.

Every day you are alive, you have the opportunity to change.  And every day more and more people simply hold on to their own defined ways, never acknowledging that they are totally wrong.

And so, captivity, famished, and thirst, replace the party-on, drinking, disregard of responsibility attitude.  All that people pursue they never attain, and that which they attain they lose. The results are far worse that any can imagine, but then everyone who chooses the life of self-righteousness, or corruption, or disregard of truth, never take the repercussions of judgment seriously.

Those who disregard the mandates of the scriptures, do not take them seriously, and that is a very big mistake.
