Isaiah 5:10

Isaiah 5:10

10 Yea, [kiy] ten [`eser] acres [tsemed] of vineyard [kerem] shall yield [`asah] one ['echad] bath, [bath] and the seed [zera`] of an homer [chomer] shall yield [`asah] an ephah. ['eyphah] KJV-Interlinear

10 "For ten acres of vineyard will yield only one bath of wine, And a homer of seed will yield but an ephah of grain."  NASB

A bath is a measure of liquid, and equates to about eight gallons.  Typical production of ten acres of vineyard should produce about 500 baths or about 4000 gallons.  However, the economy is such that only a single bath or only eight gallons are produced where 4000 gallons were expected.

A homer is a measure of seed or about eight bushels.  An ephah is one-tenth of a homer.  So do the math.  You plant eight bushels and produce only one-tenth of that amount, or far less than you planted.  The bushel should produce anywhere from thirty to forty times its own amount, and certainly not less than its starting quantity.  That means that the land is simply not producing.  Losses are great.

Thus the reason for empty homes, poor production, poor return, loss on investment, poverty, and so forth.

And again, remember that the majority of Isaiah, even though his prophecies were for times more near to his time in history, they all point to the end days, which will be the last seven years of human history, which is still future.

We have already studied the book of Revelation, and if you recall, there will be a time during those years, that the economies of the world will collapse, the production of the world will collapse and the necessary items for life, as well as the luxury products, will vanish of the retail shelves and people will not only cry over their loss, but they will die from starvation, among other things.

The wine represents the luxuries as well as the common things of life. The grains represents the staples or bread and butter of life.

All of this because of the rejection of truth, of doctrine, of God, of Christ, and so forth.  When people reject truth, then they look to the world and the world produces far less than ones expectations.  Only doctrine produces more.

Look to any country even in our current day, any country that has a track record of rejection of Christ, and you will find phenomenal poverty which exceeds the imagination, and even if you visited those places you would still not believe how any person could survive in that environment.  Needless to say most of those places pursue Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and similar religions.  And those things bring disaster to generation after generation within that region.

They lack production, they lack innovation, they lack commerce of any significant quantity.  India has terrible poverty.  China has terrible poverty.  Other places have similar situations. Only the presence of our Church Age dispensation prevents those countries from total collapse.

When the end days come, which will occur in the Tribulation, then the entire world will look far worse that the worst place we have currently.  And that alone makes the Tribulation the most terrible time period in all of human history.  And yet, as we have already studied, the vast majority of the worlds population will continue to reject Christ and instead will pursue an anti-christ that will be driving them all to oblivion.

Rejection of Christ, doctrine, and truth, will lead your life to disaster, regardless of your status or accomplishments, or acquisitions in this life. The world offers enticements in everything but produces nothing.
