Psalm 38:7
7 For my loins [kecel] are
filled [male'] with a
loathsome [qalah]
disease: and there is no soundness [mathom] in my
flesh [basar]. KJV-Interlinear
7 For my sides are filled with burning, and
there is no soundness in my flesh. ESV
A quick reminder,
that this Psalm is one of the penitential, or confession, Psalms. It describes
the terrible unsoundness of the body as a result of the sin nature which is in
the physical body.
This does not describe
the repercussions of bad decisions in sin, per se, but it is intended to
describe the harsh reality that we are born with, as far as the sin nature in
our life is concerned.
The loins or the
side, refer to the muscle or fatty tissue that is inside the body.
Loathsome,
describes roasting, or a parching, or a burning or inflammation condition.
The disease,
describes a condition which saturates the whole body.
No soundness,
describes a disease that is so deep-seated and so pervading that it causes
weakness and unsoundness of the flesh.
David may very
well have been terribly sick at one time, however this Psalm uses that sickness
to describe the spiritual principle of man’s sickness due to the sin nature.
Even though you
walk and talk from day-to-day, feeling happy and healthy, your underlying
condition, though not always apparent, is slowly eating away at the very fabric
of your essence.
And then when you
actually do get sick, terribly sick, then the reality of your condition is
brought to your attention.
It is said that
the entire world is a shadow of the realities that exist.
The spiritual
realm is the ultimate reality. Our temporal realm, or our physical world, gives
us only physical examples, so that we can understand spiritual principles.
Even though we
have topics like love, and marriage, and divorce, and baptism, and daily diets,
and good and sin, and on and on, all of these topics in our physical world,
teach spiritual principles that deal with our relationship to God, and
ultimately to life and to reality.
The sin nature
which we have to endure now, is there to teach us that a life apart from God,
is not good.
All that we can
expect from this world, is pain and suffering and hardship, and ultimately the
entire decay of our being.
Needless to say,
to escape this, we need a relationship with God, through Christ. And we build
that relationship through the study of Bible doctrine.
These
studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org,
and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so
already, and therefore not be lost forever.
And
if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you
can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come
to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and
purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a
phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever. To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily
study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big
time.
The
Daily Bible Study is online, making it possible as never before in all of human
history, to advance in ones relationship with God, through Christ, and to
complete yourself beyond your imagination.
But
you have to decide to make that commitment.
No one else can study for you.
You have to do that yourself.
