Isaiah 30:21

Isaiah 30:21

21 And thine ears ['ozen] shall hear [shama`] a word [dabar] behind ['achar] thee, saying ['amar], This is the way [derek], walk ye in it [yalak], when ye turn to the right hand ['aman], and when ye turn to the left [sama'l].   KJV-Interlinear

21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.  ESV

Continuing from the previous verse, when you have learned and know Bible doctrine, then this verse applies to your thinking. This is not a voice standing behind you speaking to you, but the content of your soul, which should be Bible doctrine, guiding and directing your life.

The word for hear, shama, means to listen, to pay attention. And this paying attention, refers to the principles and precepts that Bible doctrine teaches, and therefore, you need to pay attention to the direction and guidance that doctrine provides.

The concept of someone standing behind you, is symbolism, drawn from the picture portrayed of the teacher standing behind and following students, or of a shepherd following behind his flock, and guiding them in the direction that they should go.

And when a student, which refers to you, happens to stray left or right from the path, then that doctrine within your soul should be enough to correct your straying, and get you back on the right path of life.

Of the very many things that the spiritual life provides, is the principle of independence and autonomy.

The whole point of growing up to spiritual maturity, is so that you can live and think and function in life, not as an infant needing constant care and guidance and correction, but as a mature adult that is capable of knowing and fulfilling their obligations in life, that is capable of being responsible, that is capable and willing to accept responsibility, and that is ultimately independent and free from the shackles of this world, and live a life as it is supposed to be lived, and fulfilled.

Far too many people, fail in this regard. They don’t have the drive or the desire to go the extra mile, to dig out the truth and learn it, to grow up.

It is far easier to remain a spiritual infant, and cry and whine and complain and be opinionated about virtually everything in life.

But then the eternal rewards of the spiritual infant, are infinitely less than the eternal rewards of the spiritually mature believer.

Therefore, in order to get more out of eternity, you have to grow up.  And to grow up, you have to want to grow up.  And then you have to pursue that growing process.

These studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.
