Romans 8:5

Romans 8:5

5 For [gar] they that are [on] after [kata] the flesh [sarx] do mind [phroneo] the things [ho] of the flesh [sarx]; but [de] they that are after [kata] the Spirit [pneuma] the things [ho] of the Spirit [pneuma].   KJV-Interlinear

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. ESV

As we saw in the last verse, living according to the flesh, refers to a person who lives outside the spiritual requirements of the spiritual life. In other words, they do not confess their sins, they do not learn Bible doctrine by means of a daily instruction, they simply do not follow the spiritual requirements as laid out in the Bible.

The phrase living according to the spirit, or as stated, they that are after the spirit, refers to believers in Christ, who confess their sins on a regular basis in order to live inside the fellowship sphere, who pursue a daily study in Bible doctrine by means of instruction, and therefore gain an understanding of the spiritual life, and consequently grow up in their spiritual life, fulfilling their purpose in life as God intends.

Living according to the flesh, simply means you disregard all of those spiritual things. People may pretend to be obedient or spiritual, but in reality they are not.

Living according to the spirit, is a simple phrase that describes a functioning spiritual life of the believer in Jesus Christ.

If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
If you can think and not let thoughts narrow your views,

Then you can believe in Christ, learn Bible doctrine, and grow far beyond the potential that God has prepared for you.

These studies, are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org, that is easily accessible, and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so already, and therefore not be lost forever.

And if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever.

To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big time.

Romans 8:4

Romans 8:4

4 That [hina] the righteousness [dikaioma] of the law [nomos] might be fulfilled [pleroo] in [en] us [hemin], who walk [peripateo] not [me] after [kata] the flesh [sarx], but [alla] after [kata] the Spirit [pneuma].   KJV-Interlinear

4  in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. ESV

The phrase, righteousness of the law, describes the perfection that we must have before we can have a relationship with God. God is perfect, therefore we must be perfect.

The law, here refers to the Mosaic law. The law spells out the requirements of perfection. But, we already know, that man is incapable of meeting those requirements.

Therefore, we need someone else who will stand in our place, and meet those requirements, but more than that, someone who will pay the price of our failure.

And of course that someone is Jesus Christ.

When Christ went to the cross, He had lived the perfect life. He was therefore, qualified to pay the price of sin in our behalf.

Walking according to the flesh, simply refers to a person trying to live their life, apart from faith in Christ.

Walking according to the spirit, refers to a person who is living their life, in accordance with the faith requirements of Christ. Namely, faith for salvation, as well as faith by means of a daily Bible study wherein we learn and grow up in our spiritual life.

Proverbs 1:31

Proverbs 1:31

31 Therefore shall they eat ['akal] of the fruit [pariy] of their own way [derek], and be filled [saba`] with their own devices [mow`etsah].   KJV-Interlinear

31 therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices. ESV

Those who are wise in their own eyes, those who ignore daily instruction, those who otherwise pretend interest in Bible doctrine, are left to their own devices and to the success of their own efforts and to their own demise, which is certain, and totally caused by themselves.

Therefore, God leaves them to their own efforts. God allows them to succeed or fail, as the world determines, because the framework of the world, which is also designed by God, leaves ample room for believers and unbelievers alike, to function in accordance with their own choices, within the framework of establishment principles.

However, life in this world is temporary. And anything that is temporary, obviously is not permanent.

Bible doctrine is permanent, and carries over into the next life.

Dedicating oneself only to the design of this world, is dedicating oneself to the possibility of temporary success, but guarantees permanent failure. And anyone simply looking around the world, can see that 99% of the people in the world, are not successful.

But, under the principles of common grace, everyone has the opportunity to pursue life in accordance with their own definition. But also, everyone is well-informed that life will end, and their choices, if not for God, will come back to haunt them at the end of their life.

Psalm 40:11

Psalm 40:11

11  Withhold [kala'] not thou thy tender mercies [racham] from me, O LORD [Yahovah]: let thy lovingkindness [checed] and thy truth ['emeth] continually [tamiyd] preserve [natsar] me.   KJV-Interlinear

11 As for you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me! ESV

Gods tender mercies, which represent the actions He takes from His policy of grace, which is also his lovingkindness, are never withheld from those who pursue God and truth.

Truth is reality, and blessings flow to reality.

Those who reject truth, and therefore reject reality, likewise reject the blessings that flow through reality.

You cannot reject truth, and expect to benefit from truth.

Truth, which comes to us in the form of Bible doctrine, preserves our life.

Truth preserves, however to possess that protection, you have to know and therefore possess truth.

And there is only one way to know truth, and that way is by means of learning Bible doctrine through instruction in a daily Bible study.

Psalm 40:10

Psalm 40:10

10 I have not hid [kacah] thy righteousness [tsadaqah] within [tavek] my heart [leb]; I have declared ['amar] thy faithfulness ['emuwnah] and thy salvation [tashuw`ah]: I have not concealed [kachad] thy lovingkindness [checed] and thy truth ['emeth] from the great [rab] congregation [qahal].   KJV-Interlinear

10 I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. ESV

David is writing the words, but the words and thinking are those of Christ. One member of the Trinity, the Son, is speaking to another member of the Trinity, the Father.

The idea behind the words for righteousness, and faithfulness, and salvation, and lovingkindness, convey the entire concept and design and plan of God from truth, which is revealed to us within the content of Bible doctrine.

Righteousness is truth. Faithfulness is our reliance on God to never change. Salvation is God’s plan. Lovingkindness represents Gods grace.

The great congregation, is all of creation, and all of created life, throughout all of history.

Truth and God’s plan, have always been revealed.

God has never tucked them away within His own mind, and has never hidden truth from any of creation.

The angels knew the content of truth, as it applied to them, and humanity has known the content of truth and God’s plan, as it applies to us.

Truth is public and never hidden, while the dark side, or the lies against truth, are always kept hidden, and seek to deceive and destroy out of the darkness that they exist in.

Romans 8:3

Romans 8:3

3 For [gar] what the law [nomos] could not do [adunatos], in [en] that [hos] it was weak [astheneo] through [dia] the flesh [sarx], God [theos] sending [pempo] his own [heautou] Son [huios] in [en] the likeness [homoioma] of sinful [hamartia] flesh [sarx], and [kai] for [peri] sin [hamartia], condemned [katakrino] sin [hamartia] in [en] the flesh [sarx]:   KJV-Interlinear

3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, ESV

God has provided salvation and eternal life by means of His work on the cross, and made available to us, through faith.

The Mosaic law identifies the perfect life, however the flesh, being weakened by the sin nature, prevents that perfect life.

Since no man was able to live the perfect life, and therefore qualify as a legitimate sacrifice in payment for sin, then God had to become man, which means God became the likeness of man, in order to do what the common man is incapable of doing.

Jesus Christ, is God.
Jesus Christ was born as a human male, in order to live among humanity as a man.
Jesus Christ was exposed to sin, while in the flesh, but never succumbed to sin.

Therefore, Jesus Christ condemned sin, while in the flesh, and then fulfill the payment in full of sin, while in the flesh.

And this is a work that no other human being is capable of doing.

Jesus was born an infant baby, He grew up for thirty years to adulthood, He conducted His ministry for three-and-a-half-years beyond that, He suffered heart aches and pressures and temptations galore, even being nailed to the cross. And He never committed even a single sin.

He conducted His life in perfection.
He fulfilled His work in perfection.

And He is the only person that was qualified for, and capable of, completing the work of salvation.

Romans 8:2

Copyright Ó 2016 J. Neely
Romans 8:2

2 For [gar] the law [nomos] of the Spirit [pneuma] of life [zoe] in [en] Christ [Christos] Jesus [Iesous] hath made [eleutheroo] me [me] free [eleutheroo] from [apo] the law [nomos] of sin [hamartia] and [kai] death [thanatos].   KJV-Interlinear

2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. ESV

Paul designates two separate types of law. The first is referred to as the law of the spirit of life, and the second is referred to as the law of sin. The word for law, is a general reference to the rules or commands or influence, by which our life is governed.

The law of sin enters into our life when we are born, because the sin nature is a part of our physical body, and remains with us throughout our entire life while living in this world.

We can’t live without our physical body, therefore we cannot escape our relationship with the sin nature, on a physical level.

And the sin nature has such a powerful influence, such that, if we did not have any mental restraint, then we would be totally helpless so far as the sin nature is concerned.

However, God came up with a plan, that gives us a level playing field with the sin nature, and a defense against its influences.

And that defense of course, comes in the form of Jesus Christ, and His work on the cross, and our faith in Him, which identifies us with Him, and therefore protects us against the power of the sin nature.

Without Christ, and doctrine, and faith, we are totally helpless, and in total slavery to the sin nature.

Being born into this world with the sin nature, places us under the Mosaic law, which means we would have to earn our way out of the sin nature, by means of our own effort. And no person is capable of doing that. Thus the law of the sin nature and our total helplessness within that law.

However, Christ went to the cross, and paid the price of sin, thus providing us a way out from under the law of the sin nature.

And faith in Christ, is that way out.

For, by means of His work on the cross, we are set free, through faith, and thus are no longer under the requirement of working our own way out of sin, by our own effort, which we cannot do.

The law of the spirit, identifies the whole concept of Christ and His work of salvation, of our faith, of our study and knowledge of Bible doctrine, of our spiritual life, and the spiritual process in its entirety.

The spiritual process is entirely the design and work of God. Within the spiritual process we merely listen and learn and benefit.

God gets all of the credit. We get no credit, for we do no work within the spiritual life worthy of credit. The spiritual life comes to us in its entirety, and is a gift from God.

Proverbs 1:30

Copyright  2016 J. Neely
Proverbs 1:30

30 They would ['abah] none of my counsel [`etsah]: they despised [na'ats] all my reproof [towkechah].   KJV-Interlinear

30 would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, ESV

Continuing on from verse 29. When a person has rejected knowledge, they are in effect rejecting Gods counsel. When a person has rejected knowledge, which comes from Bible doctrine, then the person rejects Gods corrections.

So, by rejecting knowledge, which means rejecting a daily study that teaches knowledge, then a person is isolating themselves away from truth, and away from true counsel.

Proper counseling helps you make decisions, correct decisions for life.

When you reject counsel, because you have rejected a daily study in the word of God, then you cannot make good decisions in life, because you lack good information.

Using only the world as your teacher, leaves you open to misinterpretation, misunderstanding, wrong conclusions, and therefore, wrong decisions.

And the worst wrong decision that anyone can have in life, is to think that they don’t need Bible doctrine.

Bible doctrine is the substance of truth, the building material of the soul, the structural integrity that is installed within your soul, which is the real you.

Without Bible doctrine in the soul, you are empty and incomplete.

Without Bible doctrine in the soul, you are nothing more than historical filler, making you pretty much a waste of time for history.

Isaiah 33:7

Copyright Ó 2016 J. Neely
Isaiah 33:7

7 Behold, their valiant ones ['er'el] shall cry [tsa`aq] without [chuwts]: the ambassadors [mal'ak] of peace [shalowm] shall weep [bakah] bitterly [mar].   KJV-Interlinear

7 Behold, their heroes cry in the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly. ESV

After describing the ultimate stable life in the previous verse, Isaiah dramatically changes the tone of the message, to indicate the seriousness and the ultimate danger of life in this world.

In Isaiah’s day, Judah sent ambassador after ambassador, seeking peace. And yet the results were never going to be peace, because this world is run by the devil himself, and he is not interested in pursuing peace with anything or anyone.

Hezekiah failed in his day, human history has failed throughout history, and in the tribulation, which is still future, the antichrist will not be interested in peace.

Christians, who are those who have believed in Christ, possess the title of ambassador from heaven.

Our real nation and true home, is in heaven. We are, as it were, on loan from God to this world.

But this world is not interested in God, not interested in truth, and certainly not interested in us.

As a result, life in this world will always be filled with heartache and hardship. And that will not change until the second advent of Christ.

History is said to be the angelic conflict. We as ambassadors, remain here until called home by Christ.

There will come a time, when two opposing nations are at odds, and conflict is inevitable, then the ambassadors are recalled, generally just prior to war being declared.

In the Christian life, we refer to that recall, as the rapture. Wherein, Christ will call us, and snatch us out of this world, leaving only unbelievers behind, and thus unleashing a terrible seven year period, which we call the tribulation.

The angelic conflict will finally reach its end, when Christ returns in his second advent.

Until that occurs, the world will be far from perfect, and will be constantly filled with burdens, with heartache, with sorrow, and so forth. And there is nothing you can do to make this world any better than that.

You can however, make your life better as an individual, by learning Bible doctrine and advancing to the stability of spiritual maturity.

Isaiah 33:6

Copyright Ó 2016 J. Neely
Isaiah 33:6

6 And wisdom [chokmah] and knowledge [da`ath] shall be the stability ['emuwnah] of thy times [`eth], and strength [chocen] of salvation [yashuw`ah]: the fear [yir'ah] of the LORD [Yahovah] is his treasure ['owtsar].   KJV-Interlinear

6 and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is Zion’s treasure.  ESV

The most valuable treasure in existence, is that which comes from God. Most people do not have this treasure, because they do not know what it is or how to get it. Nor, do they take the time to figure this out.

Faith, is the ultimate objective of the spiritual life. Faith is the muscle of the spiritual life.

Faith comes from wisdom.
Wisdom comes from the application of understanding.
Understanding comes from knowledge.
Knowledge comes from learning.
Learning comes from the day to day study of the word of God.

The learning process is where most people fail.

When Bible doctrine is learned, and understood, and applied to ones daily life, then the spiritual life is developed.

Blessings from God flow to the individual who is developing, or advancing in their spiritual life.

The word for abundance, refers to that which is far beyond what you would ever need. And that is a lot.

Zion, is a word throughout the Bible that refers to the vast truth of God. Truth is Bible doctrine. And when you learn Bible doctrine, and inculcate it into your soul, that results in the stability of life, and the relaxed mental attitude, that is otherwise not available by any other means in this world.

Learn the spiritual process, which is available only to believers in Christ. Unbelievers do not have a spiritual life.

The spiritual process is, repeated confession of sins to God the Father, in order to reside within the fellowship sphere.
And, while in fellowship:
Pursue a daily Bible study, through instruction, in order to learn Bible doctrine.
Apply Bible doctrine to your daily life, and by that, gain understanding.
Repeat this process, in order to advance to advanced understanding which is wisdom.
And finally developing faith, which is based on the substance of Bible doctrine that resides within your soul.

Faith, is the muscle and power of the spiritually mature life.
