Psalm 40:6
6 Sacrifice [zebach] and
offering [minchah] thou
didst not desire [chaphets]; mine
ears ['ozen] hast
thou opened [karah]: burnt
offering [`olah] and
sin offering [chata'ah] hast
thou not required [sha'al]. KJV-Interlinear
6 In sacrifice and offering you have not
delighted, but you have given me an open ear. Burnt offering and sin offering
you have not required. ESV
Just as the
candlelight of night has no further use when the bright sunshine of day is
risen, so too, the sacrifices and offerings of the Mosaic law had no further
use after Christ had fulfilled their purpose, on the cross.
However, God
wanted something more than the ritual fulfillment of sacrifices and offerings.
For these things taught principles of doctrine and truth, regarding the work of
Christ, and the work of the spiritual life.
Methodically
stepping through a ritual, without learning the principle that it teaches, is a
total waste of time. Unfortunately, the Jewish people had become habitual
ritual keepers, without learning the spiritual principles that were being
taught.
Likewise, too many
Christians, step through life without learning Bible doctrine, and that too is
a total waste of ones life.
Sacrifices and
offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings, refer to four cornerstones of the
spiritual life.
Beginning with the
sacrifice of Christ on the cross, and believing, through faith, for salvation,
and then following that with confession and living within the framework of the
spiritual life, while learning and growing up, and fulfilling ones purpose
within the spiritual life, these rituals demonstrate the total picture of a
relationship with God through Christ, and a functional spiritual life through
doctrine.
God did not desire
ritual only. What God desires is that each of us learn and grow, and thereby
fulfilling our spiritual destiny, in our relationship with Him.
To live in this
world, and reject Christ, by rejecting faith, is the worst of all possible
scenarios.
To live in this
world as a believer in Christ, while rejecting the learning of Bible doctrine,
is the worst of all spiritual scenarios.
To be saved and
learn nothing, is a wasted life.
Therefore, the
objective of the individual, after having been saved through faith, is to learn
Bible doctrine by means of a daily study through instruction, and advance in
ones spiritual life to spiritual maturity.
Thus, fulfilling ones own personal meaning and purpose and destiny for
life.
Study [by instruction],
to show thyself
approved [spiritually mature]
unto God,
a workman [student]
that need not be
ashamed [ignorant],
rightly dividing [learning, understanding, discerning]
the word of truth [Bible doctrine].
These
studies are a part of the massive daily study web site at DailyBibeStudy.Org,
and are written, so that you can come to Christ if you have not done so
already, and therefore not be lost forever.
And
if you have already believed in Christ, then these studies are written so you
can learn and understand and grow in your spiritual life, so that you can come
to the full knowledge of Christ, so that you can fulfill your meaning and
purpose in life as God intended for you, and so you can qualify for a
phenomenal eternal reward which you will have forever. To ignore this opportunity to pursue a daily
study means you will be incomplete, unfulfilled and you will lose out, big
time.
The
Daily Bible Study is online, making it possible as never before in all of human
history, to advance in ones relationship with God, through Christ, and to
complete yourself beyond your imagination.
But
you have to decide to make that commitment.
No one else can study for you.
You have to do that yourself.
