Isaiah 32:8

Copyright Ó 2016 J. Neely
Isaiah 32:8

8 But the liberal [nadiyb] deviseth [ya`ats] liberal things [nadiyb]; and by liberal things [nadiyb] shall he stand [quwm].   KJV-Interlinear

8 But he who is noble plans noble things, and on noble things he stands. ESV

The liberal, is the one who perverts and distorts truth and lives by misguided deceit. He is a person who is misled himself. In contrast with the previous verse, wherein the churl knows exactly what he’s doing, and is deceitful intentionally, the liberal on the other hand, is an idealist who believes that what he is doing is right.

Don’t misunderstand, the term liberal is not in reference to the term as it is used in current day politics.

The biblical term for the liberal, is one who has gone astray from truth. And he has gone astray such that he actually believes in his cause or his philosophy or his point of view.

And even though his ideas are wrong and false, he does not see them as such, but actually believes them as being noble and honorable.

This type of person is truly blind to reality, and believes that everyone else is blind to reality.

The practice of his beliefs has noble and honorable connotations, and he pursues his beliefs because he firmly believes in his ideals.

Today, we would call this person an idealist, or someone who believes in a philosophy that simply does not exist in reality.
