Psalm 37:4
4 Delight [`anag] thyself also in the
LORD [Y@hovah]; and he shall give [nathan] thee the desires [mish'alah]
of thine heart [leb]. KJV-Interlinear
4
Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. ESV
Quoting scripture without
a genuine commitment to learning its meaning, makes you a fraud. Don’t even begin to quote this verse or
attempt to claim it, especially if you do not comply with, or commit yourself
to, Gods mandates for learning doctrine by means of daily instruction. Delight, ‘anag,’ means to live delicately and effeminately
(gentle, kind); then, to be tender or delicate; then, to live a contented life
of ease or pleasure; then, to find delight or pleasure in a thing. The meaning
here is, that we should seek our happiness, meaning, purpose, contentment, our
whole self, in God, through His word or being, His purpose, His relationship,
His love, His doctrine.
In the Lord, specifically directs your
interest and desire to that which comes from God, personally to each one of
us. And that which comes to us is Bible
doctrine, or the written word. That is
our link, our only link, to knowing God, Christ, the spiritual life and
everything that God has made available to us.
Without Bible doctrine, we would be in
total darkness with regard to all that exists.
The desires of your heart, means your
requests, your askings, those things that are important to you and that you
deeply desire.
Now, when you commit yourself to God, then
you adopt His plan, His method, His purpose.
You commit yourself to learning all that God wants you to learn and
know, and more importantly to understand.
With this spiritual content in your soul,
then your desires will be influenced and driven by that doctrine, rather than
by the former desires that have been driven by the sin nature.
All good intentions and sincerity aside,
which are usually driven by phony purposes, these then will be replaced by
honest and genuine and objective views, which are formed by Gods Word that has
been inculcated into your soul.
The heart, is a pump. In the body it keeps the blood moving
throughout your physical self and keeps your body healthy.
In the soul, the heart is the symbolic pump
of the thought constantly being circulated throughout your mind. You learn
truth, you know truth, you think truth.
And remember that truth is the substance of
facts that agree and match up perfectly with reality. Truth is not limited to the words in a verse,
but is the sum total of all that God has done in this universe, in creation, in
life, in the laws of establishment, in the rules of salvation, in the process
of the spiritual life and far, far more.
So, instead of praying
for world peace and love and can’t we just all get along, which things will never
happen, because this is the devils world, and the Bible tells us that the world
is going to come to an end, and we certainly do not want to call God a liar,
then we should be praying for doctrine and positive volition from people who
need to hear and learn doctrine, and also the defeat of evil no matter where it
is. As they say in the trenches, ‘Praise
the Lord and pass the ammunition.’
Doctrine creates courage
and confidence and rational thought. Absence of doctrine brings nonsense.
