Isaiah
28:26
26 For his God ['elohiym] doth
instruct [yacar] him to discretion [mishpat], and doth teach [yarah]
him. KJV-Interlinear
26 For he is rightly instructed; his
God teaches him. ESV
Common sense is terribly lacking in this world. People look at life through a tunnel and if
they do not see something then it does not exist. Likewise if the Bible says one thing or does not
say something, then they restrict their thinking to whatever is in the Bible or
not in the Bible. They refuse to sit
back and look at the whole picture, which, by the way, God painted as well.
Discretion, ‘mishpat,’ generally refers to judgment,
manner, law, measure, and comes to mean discernment when evaluating information
or circumstances, and refers to common sense when evaluating life in general.
Now, did God lean down and instruct all of the farmers
of the world? No, and yes, as it were.
In the Bible, God did give specific instructions so
that something could be accomplished. He
instructed Noah in the construction of the ark.
He instructed Joshua in various military actions. He gave specific instructions in the construction
of the temple. And there are many more
examples.
But as far as farming goes. That instruction came primarily from
observation, trial and error, learning and the knowledge that develops during
the life of the individual farmer as well as advice that came down to him from
his parents and so forth.
So, no, God did not speak to the farmers of the world,
but yes, God set forth many common sense rules that apply to farming. Rules such as distinguishing wet land crops
versus dry land crops, plowing, clearing rocks away, the use of different soils
and approaches for different crops and climates, and so forth.
These things are not described in the Bible, so do
they not exist? But they do exist in
life and in this world, so obviously they are truths that are separate and
apart from the Bible. Just like atoms
and small atomic particles, and solar systems, and galaxies, and time and
distance relationships, and social issues and cooking and changing of diapers
and hygiene and computers and on and on.
These things are not in the Bible, but they are a part
of the vast array of truths, which are details that match with reality, all of
which God designed and invented, and set forth the rules that pertain to every
aspect of the function of this universe, whether we can see them or not,
whether we know of them or not.
Science would probably discover things faster if the
question was asked, ‘Since God designed it, then what is its purpose, design,
function, relationship, and so forth? If
it exists, then there must be a reason and purpose?’
And so we have electricity and cars and music players,
and computers and the internet and virtually everything that exists in this
world. Not to mention a wide array of
foods and beverages and the means to prepare and store them.
But when man gets into his tunnel, then all crooked
noses are signs of witches, the world is flat, the only acceptable clothing color
is black. And the worst of them all is
mans refusal to listen and learn Bible doctrine, which is not just the doorway
to the content of the scriptures, but the doorway to the environment of clarity
of thought, most of which is not in the Bible.
When you live within the fellowship sphere, and are
advancing in your spiritual life, then Bible doctrine in your soul, produces a
structure that includes the ability to think and to think clearly and to see
and understand and to see and understand clearly.
Without doctrine, the mind becomes foggy and that
means unclear thinking, which includes witches and flat ground and distorted social
and economic beliefs and so forth.
Learning Bible doctrine, opens the doors of
opportunity. Refusal to learn, closes
the doors of opportunity.
So, Gods instructions come within and from beyond the
content of the scriptures, but those instructions have to be received within a
clear thinking mind, otherwise things can be easily misunderstood and
misinterpreted and misapplied.
Unbelievers can function in this world with the
fundamental intuitions that God gave them, but sooner or later even the
application of those truths will collapse within the distortions of the foggy
mind.
