Psalm 37:3

3 Trust [batach] in the LORD [Y@hovah], and do [`asah] good [towb]; so shalt thou dwell [shakan] in the land ['erets], and verily ['emuwnah] thou shalt be fed [ra`ah].   KJV-Interlinear

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.   ESV

Four actions are mentioned of which most folks simply misunderstand.  Trust, do, dwell, and fed are the four actions.  And these sum up the entire spiritual life which again, most folks do not understand because they do not take the time to learn Bible doctrine, as they spend most of their time avoiding instruction and learning doctrine, or trying to get someone else to do it for them.  And that is why they fail.

And this verse opens up a series of verses that teach the spiritual life, and should be learned and memorized, and most of all, understood.

Trust is something that can be done when you know the person you are trusting.  Not knowing doctrine means that you cannot know Christ, and therefore you cannot trust in Him.  And words expressed from an empty soul, are mere words which carry no substance from the soul, because there is no substance in the soul, because it is never learned.

Do good, means Gods good, not yours.  Do-gooder or well-meaning or sincere activities, are rejected, because they are not done from the source of Gods purpose and plan.

Good means divine good, and divine good can only be accomplished when in fellowship.  Anything else is human good and anything done from the energy of the flesh is likewise rejected in Gods plan.  Fellowship is the environment of the spiritual life and is acquired when you confess your sins to God the Father.  When you sin, then you are out of fellowship and need to confess that or those sins, in order to be restored into fellowship.

To dwell in the land does not refer to Jerusalem or Israel, or anywhere on the planet. The land, is the spiritual life in which you dwell from within your soul.  And thus no matter where you are, when you are in fellowship and therefore a resident of the spiritual structure of your soul, then you are living exactly where God wants you to live, namely in your spiritual life.

And you will be fed. This should be obvious. Bible doctrine is the food and the sustenance of your soul.

What you think is what you are, and if your soul is filled with Bible doctrine, because you have learned it through instruction, and keep on learning it, then your soul will be continually nourished all of your life.  Your growth, your understanding, your spiritual production, your faith will increase almost automatically.  And faith is the structure of your inner power and strength and courage and trust.
