Isaiah 29:5

Isaiah 29:5

5 Moreover the multitude [hamown] of thy strangers [zuwr] shall be like small [daq] dust ['abaq], and the multitude [hamown] of the terrible ones [`ariyts] shall be as chaff [mots] that passeth away [`abar]: yea, it shall be at an instant [petha`] suddenly [pith'owm].   KJV-Interlinear

5 But the multitude of your foreign foes shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the ruthless like passing chaff. And in an instant, suddenly,   ESV

Historically there are examples of the siege of the city of Jerusalem.  The siege set by Sennacherib being at the top of the list of dramatic historical events.

And the events will repeat themselves again at the end of history, when Jerusalem will again be surrounded.

Only this time it will be bombarded into near oblivion, as the greater portion of the city’s population will be killed.  And yet, the city will never fall into the hands of its enemies.

And the description here is of the enemies of Jerusalem.  They will be as the dust and as the chaff.

In both cases, they will number in huge numbers, but despite all of their presumed power, they will be helpless as the dust or chaff is before the wind.

Dust is scattered and it loses its identity and its organization, completely in a heavy wind.

Chaff is scattered with little or no effort.  It takes little wind to separate the chaff and blow it away.

And the verse ends with the word, suddenly, ‘pithown,’ which means instantly.

When God makes His move, then time virtually stops, as events unfold quickly.  And in this case, the action of God will be instant.

Jerusalem will be surrounded and fighting for all they are worth.

Its enemies will be bombing Jerusalem and focusing their attention on Jerusalem, and then from out of nowhere, and certainly not from Jerusalem, God will enter the fray.  The enemies will be caught by total surprise, a surprise that will not last very long, as the battle will end nearly as quickly.

Isaiah 29:4

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 29:4

4 And thou shalt be brought down [shaphel], and shalt speak [dabar] out of the ground ['erets], and thy speech ['imrah] shall be low [shachach] out of the dust [`aphar], and thy voice [qowl] shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit ['owb], out of the ground ['erets], and thy speech ['imrah] shall whisper [tsaphaph] out of the dust [`aphar].   KJV-Interlinear

4 And you will be brought low; from the earth you shall speak, and from the dust your speech will be bowed down; your voice shall come from the ground like the voice of a ghost, and from the dust your speech shall whisper.   ESV

The underlying rejection of God, is ever present as the arrogant refuse to listen, refuse to learn, refuse to see the truth, refuse to see their own arrogance, and the falseness of their own beliefs. When arrogance enjoys the prosperity and freedom to do as it pleases, then God, and Gods plan are despised.  Heads are held high, and opinions are loud and vocal.

And so the little things are made priorities, and the major things are disregarded.

And so God, sooner or later brings the arrogant, down.  That is, they are humiliated even in public, even as they were arrogant in public.

Their loud voice will change to a softer mumble or mutter.  Not that their beliefs will change, for in general many who have made arrogance primary in their life, are stuck in arrogance, almost never recognizing their transgressions.

In ancient times, soothsayers, would reside in caves or in sheltered places out of the public view.

They carry out their false communications with the dead, and do so in soft and quiet voices.  Generally to promote dramatic appearances.

And so it is when the arrogant are eventually humiliated, their voice tone will soften and they will speak not so loudly, but in quiet mutterings.  Still holding to their false beliefs, but in a more quiet fashion.

Often times they will never learn, even in great humiliation, because one of the biggest characteristics of arrogance is the unwillingness to listen and learn.

When the hammer of Gods justice or judgment or discipline comes down, then the humiliations are not just simple embarrassments, but massive humiliations.

And even then, change is extremely difficult for those who have refused to see he truth for so long.

Psalm 37:8

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 37:8

8 Cease [raphah] from anger ['aph], and forsake [`azab] wrath [chemah]: fret [charah] not thyself in any wise ['ak] to do evil [ra`a`].   KJV-Interlinear

8 Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath! Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.   ESV

It is easy to be caught up in frustration, because of this world, and then to react to the many difficulties that do and will exist.

The world was created perfect and restored to perfection, but it is Satan’s and mans effort that keeps driving it back to chaos and trouble.  The world is not perfect and never will be, so long as evil is prevalent.  And evil will always be here because of the sin nature and free will of man, to keep it that way.

But man will never be perfect, from his own effort, and so the world will never be perfect, but full of troubles, and so the end that is prophesied, is certain.  And not because anyone wants it that way, but because the vast majority will never change to and comply with, Gods plan.

And so your life will be full of difficulties of one sort or another.

And when combined with seeing wicked people seemingly getting away with their wickedness and even prospering, that all the more makes it difficult to keep from getting angry and hateful over your own circumstances.

But remember one important thing. God has a plan.  God controls history.

And often times His control allows the ways of man to continue in whatever direction they choose.

But sooner or later, those ways, evil as they are, will come to a crashing end.

The ultimate and supreme direction of history belongs to God.  Jesus Christ controls history.

Evil will one day cease.  It always does.  Look at all of the evil people of history, they are gone and they all failed and lost.  Not one succeeded and is here today.

This life is a testing and training ground for you, making your destiny even greater.

Evil promotes evil and gains nothing.

You simply have to endure, because your destiny beyond imagination, is certain.

Psalm 37:7

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Psalm 37:7

7 Rest [damam] in the LORD [Y@hovah], and wait patiently [chuwl] for him: fret [charah] not thyself because of him who prospereth [tsalach] in his way [derek], because of the man ['iysh] who bringeth [`asah] wicked devices [m@zimmah] to pass [`asah].   KJV-Interlinear

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!   ESV

You silence your own opinions, and listen and learn His.  To rest in the Lord, ‘damam,’ means to be dumb as in, to be astonished, to stop what you are doing to the contrary, to forbear, to hold peace, to quiet self, to rest, to be silent, to keep (put to) silence, be (stand) still, tarry, wait.  And in so doing, you halt all carnal activities and focus on the spiritual functions of life.  You live within the Lords plan and sphere as taught by the Bible.

This is the personal name for Christ.

To wait patiently means just that, but to wait based on the substance of knowledge and understanding, with confidence.

Life is full of testing’s, trials, troubles and tribulations, and they just keep coming one after another.  And often times it is these tests that will try your soul, your patience and the metal of your spiritual strength.  Frustrating as they will be, and endless as they will seem to be, they will serve only one purpose, which is to challenge your faith and your perseverance in faith.

You can get upset, or you can figure your way out of whatever situation there is.

Patience and faith will always lead to a solution. It may not be what you want, at least initially, but in hindsight you will learn of its importance in your life.

God does not always resolve problems immediately.  In fact, He rarely does things immediately when it comes to your individual life.  But rest assured that God has a plan for you, has foreseen all aspects of your life, and His solution will be far better than anything you will come up with.

Evil will prosper, because it is the devils world.  But their victories and celebrations and mocking’s and such, are only temporary, and they will end.

The inconveniences you suffer will likewise be temporary, while your long term solution will be eternal.

So, know this, evil will always lose, despite how things look.  Faith will always win, despite how things look.

Romans 4:17

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 4:17

17 (As [kathos] it is written [grapho], [hoti] I have made [tithemi] thee [se] a father [pater] of many [polus] nations [ethnos],) before [katenanti] him whom [hos] he believed [pisteuo], even God [theos], who quickeneth [zoopoieo] the dead [nekros], and [kai] calleth [kaleo] those things which be [on] not [me] as though [hos] they were [on].   KJV-Interlinear

17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.  ESV

The word for have made, ‘tithemi,’ means to give to, to grant. to set, to constitute.  And, here it is used in the past tense.  But more significantly, the words for called, ‘kaleo,’ those things which be not, ‘on me’ as though they were, ‘hos on.’  And these refer to Gods power to bring things into existence, out of nothing.

And this is a reference to the creation of the angels, who were not and then were, and the universe, which was not and then was, and then Adam, who was not and then was life.  And Gods power continues in the ongoing creation of human life which is imputed to each and every individual who is born alive into this world.

You, for example, did not exist prior to your birth, and God created your human life and imputed it into your soul.

There was a time when you did not exist, and of course you know nothing from that time, because you did not exist.  It was by Gods grace that you were created and now exist as a living human being.

But before you existed, God had plans for you and your life.

Long ago, in eternity past, God laid out the divine decrees and there are pages within that content, that lay out your life, as well as everything that has ever or will ever exist.

So, God made Abraham a father of many nation, by means of the pattern of his faith, which others will follow in suit when they believe in Christ.  And, this will occur with many peoples from all walks of life, from all cultures, from all races, from all backgrounds and so forth.

And God had that plan long before time existed, since eternity past.

God made this comment to Abraham, long before he had a child. Long before he was obedient in circumcision, long before he himself believed.

But God knew he would believe, therefore He is able to say with hindsight certainty, that the things of future, will occur.

God is able to do anything.

God is able to create an entire universe, complete with all of its attributes, and detail, and governing laws or rules, and size and such, and do it from nothing.

There was no big bang out of existing material.  No assimilation of material into dust and stars and planets and mush and life over eons of time.

There was God, then there were the angels, then the universe, and the angels sang when that occurred, then the rebellion of Lucifer and the fall of the angels.  Then the destruction of planet earth.  It became null and void.  The key phrase for that is, ‘And the earth was.’  God did not create the earth void, it became that way, and it became that way as a result of Satans destructive efforts.

And then we have the six day restoration of earth and then the creation of a new species, called man.

And then Abraham represents yet another and the last created species, but this time a spiritual species.  And that creation was and is instantaneous, uniting man with a human spirit, which makes man body, soul and spirit, when faith in Christ is exercised by the individual.

So, when you believed in Christ, God created in you, your human spirit.  Something that you knew nothing about at the time and something that you did not feel or sense in any way.  The physical world cannot sense or detect the spiritual world.  We can only know about it.

God is able to create life out of nothing. That occurs when any person is born.

God is able to restore life to that which is dead.  That occurs in the spiritual sense when one believes in Christ.  We are born again, and made new.

And God can restore life after physical death, and that occurs at the resurrection.  And that life will continue forever, never again seeing death.
