Ephesians 4:19

Ephesians 4:19

19 Who [hostis] being past feeling [apalgeo] have given [paradidomi] themselves [heautou] over [paradidomi] unto lasciviousness, [aselgeia] to [eis] work [ergasia] all [pas] uncleanness [akatharsia] with [en] greediness. [pleonexia] KJV-Interlinear

19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality, for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. NASB

Past feeling, ‘apalgeo,’ means to be sealed off, to have become apathetic, to have completed their grieving, to be beyond feeling, to be finished.

And so when truth is excluded from the life for a long enough period, then you eventually become spiritually callous, spiritually hardened, spiritually emotionless.  This does not mean that your emotions stop functioning, but what it does mean is that your spiritual functions have ceased.

A halted spiritual life means that contact with reality, with truth, with reason, have been separated away from your thoughts.

You cannot think truth because you have no truth.  You cannot think rationally because you have lost the ingredients of being rational.  You are not be oriented to life, because you have lost sight of reality from the spiritual perspective, which is the true perspective of life.

Pharaoh is the perfect example of this type of hardening of heart. Through six of the plagues, Pharaoh hardened his own heart.  He refused to recognize the Hebrew God.  He refused to obey the Hebrew God.  His soul was calloused over and death should have been the next event in his life.  However, God kept him alive for four more plagues, to demonstrate that once hardened, there is no return.  Not for Pharaoh and not for anyone.

That became the end of the vast Egyptian Empire and after they lost their great army, then the history of Egypt came to a virtual halt as far as its greatness was concerned.

When the soul becomes calloused over, it is calloused because of the lack of doctrinal circulation through the soul.  Bible doctrine is the nourishment of the soul and without it, the soul dries up and hardens over.  When the soul becomes completely closed over, then all light is extinguished and death is the only way out of this life.

Being past feeling, means having closed off of all human interaction with God and truth.

And how does this occur?  By means of the rejection of doctrine, which means the active subscribing of ones life to sin.  This is the active rejection of truth.

You do not accept spiritual responsibility in life.  You reject spiritual obligations.  You pursue those things that you have made important to yourself.  You claim, ‘Mine, mine,’ regarding the many and various details of life, elevating them to higher levels of importance than the role that God has assigned you for life.

And therefore, all things untruthful, become your selected pattern and guide for life.

It is this repeated and daily decision process that leads you to the covering over, the callousness of your soul, that eventually seals off all light from your life, and eventually ends in your miserable destruction.
