Isaiah 5:9

Isaiah 5:9

9 In mine ears ['ozen] said the LORD [Yahovah] of hosts, [tsaba'] Of a truth [lo'] many [rab] houses [bayith] shall be desolate, [shammah] even great [gadowl] and fair, [towb] without inhabitant. [yashab] KJV-Interlinear

9 In my ears the Lord of hosts has sworn, "Surely, many houses shall become desolate, Even great and fine ones, without occupants. NASB

Greed covers a wide range of sins.  Beginning with arrogance and the arrogance of indifference, and ending with the greed of having what one wants and not what God offers.  The end result is total loss.

Wait on the Lord and you will receive the desires of your heart.  But in greed, one waits on the world and ends up with nothing, regardless of what is accumulated or acquired, or attained in this life.

We all begin this life as a blank tablet ready to be filled with knowledge, which includes the knowledge of how to utilize the physical or mental gifts that God alone gives us.

Unfortunately far too many take their abilities for granted or take their achievements as due to their efforts alone, and God is given no credit.

People place the value of their life or existence, on things they have or have achieved.  However, the real value of the person is in the soul, and not in the things that are external to them.

The soul contains knowledge and the use of that knowledge, which is called wisdom.  Bible doctrine is the only correct knowledge, leading to the only correct wisdom in existence.  The world provides many aspects of truth, but tends to skew them into awkward philosophies or religions or beliefs, and thus ends up with false knowledge, false interpretations, and false wisdom.

Anything that is false and that is pursued, is a pursuit of something that does not really exist.  Thus the end result is zero.

When the world focuses on zero, then the world ends up with nothing.

Even the great and majestic homes and buildings and bureaucracies, and things that people place their trust and pride in, end up as nothing.  And when the end finally comes, those great things will be destroyed.  They will cease to exist, they will have no owners, they will have no one to boast of their beauty or grandeur, they will have no occupants, they, the things of the world, will be nothing just as the people who looked to them in pride, will be nothing.

Desolate and without inhabitant, means just that.  This is a prophecy that applies to each individual, even to you, should you ignore God and pursue your imaginary worldly life.  But it also is a prophecy for how the end of the world will look, when God destroys everything of evil.

The population of humanity will be depleted to the bare minimums, being believers only, as all people who had control of the world will then be gone.  Dead in high heaps of corpses, which will take months to bury, and a feast for the scavenger birds for those same many months.
