Psalm 16:6

Psalm 16:6

6 The lines [chebel] are fallen [naphal] unto me in pleasant [na`iym] places; yea, I have a goodly [shaphar] heritage. [nachalah] KJV-Interlinear

6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me. NASB

Lines, ‘chebel,’ means survey lines as when property or real-estate is surveyed and the property lines are determined and established.

The psalm is referring to an inheritance, and the lines are the dividing up and the determination of that inheritance.  It is not random, nor haphazard, but is fixed and known.

The pleasant places, means the choicest or best places.  Heaven is the best of the best, naturally.

The goodly heritage means desirable.

Therefore, you as a mature believer, have an inheritance in heaven and eternity, that has already been determined.  It is the best of the best, and the most desirable of the desired.  Your inheritance is not second best, but prime and top of the line, and you will be phenomenally happy with it.  It is set out specifically for you.

And not only that, but there is one more aspect to your inheritance, and that is that land or inheritance that will be up for grabs.

Fallen unto me, is a reference to that which is determined by lot, or by chance.  In some cases there will be inheritances that will not be claimed.

In the future, we will all stand before Christ to receive our evaluation and our reward.  For those who advance to spiritual maturity, the reward has been determined and will be presented by Christ to each mature believer.

However, there will be those who do not advance to spiritual maturity.  It is those who do not see the importance of doctrine, or to those who preferred their own definition of the spiritual life and thus will lose out on their eternal reward.  And as such there will be unclaimed inheritances.  Those unclaimed portions will be redistributed to mature believers.  Thus giving them even more as an inheritance for their eternal reward.
