Isaiah 2:17
17 And the loftiness [gabhuwth] of man ['adam] shall be
bowed down, [shachach] and the haughtiness [ruwm] of men ['enowsh] shall be
made low: [shaphel] and the LORD [Yahovah] alone shall be exalted [sagab] in that day. [yowm] KJV-Interlinear
17 And
the pride of man will be humbled, And the loftiness of men will be abased, And
the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. NASB
And all of the things
that people take pride in, all of the things that people place their trust in, all
of the things that people look to for their fulfillment, meaning and purpose,
all of these things that have previously been listed and far, far more, will be
taken away.
Humbled, made low, bowed
down, abased, all are terms of removal or elimination.
Today, the young
generation is impressed with celebrities, musicians, singers and stars of the
varying arts. Most of the lyrics are suggestive,
resentful of authority, carefree, or just plain rude.
The younger generation is
led by concepts of a care free life, nirvana, social activity, texting, posting,
pleasure and fun without accountability, without responsibility, without any
consequences. The philosophy is that
life is to be played, and then we all go to a peaceful place after this life.
This is viewed as something automatic and without any commitment on our part.
Principles are neglected as unnecessary.
Eat, drink, and be merry is the banner, for there is plenty of time to
do whatever one wants to do. Plenty of
time to get acquainted with God … Later!
In that day. There is always an, ‘in that day.’ Because there are always consequences,
whether you accept that fact or not. And
the Bible has the ultimate, ‘in that day,’ deadline.
Life styles will never be
exalted. Pleasures, social activities,
whatever it is that you do in life, will never be exalted, but will be made low,
diminished into nothing, massive investments of time yielding no result.
And such are the flippant
and indifferent attitudes toward reality, rejecting reality and substituting
life with lofty and self-important and conceited attitudes that are based on
the self-centered life of the individual.
And one day, all of this will
vanish as Gods truth will come crashing down around all who have rejected it
throughout their life, and most certainly at the end of human history, when all
arrogance will vanish forever.
Again the warning
continues. You have a great deal to lose
in life and in eternity, unless you turn your life around and get with a daily
program of Bible study. But then, some
folks need to hit the wall hard before they wake up to how misdirected their
life really is, before they get their head on straight.
