Psalm 13:2

Psalm 13:2

2 How long shall I take [shiyth] counsel [`etsah] in my soul, [nephesh] having sorrow [yagown] in my heart [lebab] daily [yowmam]? how long shall mine enemy ['oyeb] be exalted [ruwm] over me? KJV-Interlinear

2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, Having sorrow in my heart all the day? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? NASB

How long, is the yearning cry of the person who is in anguish.

Counsel in my soul, is a reference to the thoughts and ideas and methods tried by the individual, to get out of their predicament.  But nothing works.

Sorrow in the heart is the result of the ongoing anguish of a situation that has no earthly solution.

When a person is backed into a corner by difficulties, and has no way out, then the fears, the worries, the pains, the anxieties and so forth seem to take over the life.

And the worst of it all?  Time.

Time keeps passing by with no solution, with no relief, and the person who lacks a spiritual life, who lacks spiritual resources within their soul has only the worries and anxieties of life to keep them company.

This is a part of the lesson of this psalm.

If you have not been faithful to Gods mandates, if you have not been faithful to a daily Bible study, if you do not live your life in fellowship, then your resources are limited to your  inner fears.  And they will consume you sooner or later.

Inner fears drive people to reality escapes like drugs and alcohol and eating disorders, or being consumed with work or activities, and so forth.  And those things are never solutions, but in fact they drive you even further into the troubles of the world.

Enemies mentioned here are not combat enemies, but apply to all opposition to your positive thinking and cognitive abilities.  Your troubles, your illnesses, your inner mental deficiencies, your handicaps, people around you who gossip about you, the world in general which places even further burdens with bills and external difficulties like things breaking and falling apart around the home or work, all of these things just compound a situation that was not good in the first place, making it all the worse.

And how long will all of these things continue?

Well, that most likely depends on how long you will be reluctant to get with a daily Bible study program for your life.

God is the solution to everything, but if all you do is whine and complain and worry and grumble, then you cannot learn what the real solutions are, and all you are left with is your mental anguishes.

Unfortunately too many folks want a miracle and they want it now.  Too many folks want someone else to do things for them.  They want others to pray for them, when they are perfectly capable of praying for themselves, but do not, or their prayers are ineffective because they do not know how to pray correctly. They want others to make it better, when no one can make it better.

And all the while, the answer is right in front of each persons nose.  Bible study.

Bible study today.  Bible study tomorrow.  Bible study the next day and so on and so forth for every remaining day of your life, be that days or decades.

The real you is in your soul.  The real you is what you think.  What you think is what you bring into your soul and from that comes your inner strength, or lack of it.

Only Bible doctrine provides true inner strength and spiritual muscle.  Everything from this world experiential, academic, philosophical or otherwise, gives you nothing to support you in times of real hardship.  Because none of those things have real solutions.

God alone through doctrine in the soul is the only solution.
