2 Timothy 3:6

2 Timothy 3:6

6 For [gar] of [ek] this sort [touton] are they [eisi] which creep [enduno] into [eis] houses, [oikia] and [kai] lead captive [aichmaloteuo] silly women [gunaikarion] laden [soreuo] with sins, [hamartia] led away [ago] with divers [poikilos] lusts, [epithumia]KJV-Interlinear

6 For among them are those who enter into households and captivate weak women weighed down with sins, led on by various impulses, NASB

This sort, is a reference to those who intentionally seek out and deceive others.  These types come out of those who are phony and spiritually negative, and otherwise wicked people.

It is in the masculine form to indicate the outward aggressive attitude and function of those who deceive.

To creep into houses, ‘enduno,’ is an idiom for the full range of the subtle activity of evil.

Evil consists of the lies of the world.  Lies, in order to be effective, must be veiled and not revealed as to what they really are.

Politics are a good example of this nature.  Politicians who promote evil agendas have to hide their true motives and agenda.  They have to veil their words in ambiguity such that people will draw their own conclusions as they seem convenient to themselves.  Therefore, the politician can never be blamed, or so they think, since everyone reads what they want, into the words of the politician.

Both politician and hearer are wicked, both just approach wickedness from two opposite directions.  Politicians mislead in order to get what they want.  Hearers hear only what they want, in order to get what they want.

And so it is with any wicked promoter.  Their agenda is self-centered as already explained in the prior verses.  They are predators as indicated by the masculine form.  They seek out and take advantage of those who are already vulnerable.

Thus the feminine reference, silly women, ‘gunaikarion,’ for silly which means foolish, naïve, little.

Now this can refer to actual women that were not too bright.  But it is really a contextual reference to people in general (both men and women) who lack doctrine, and therefore lack wisdom, and therefore lack understanding, and therefore are foolish, and therefore are living out of fellowship and therefore are living in sin, and therefore are easily led astray.

The home is where you live and people who lack a functional spiritual life, live in sin.  Their wants and desires are incorporated in sin, and when more sin is offered, they jump at the chance.

When evil approaches it is always veiled in lies, otherwise any normal person would see it for what it is and avoid it.  But since lies are offered, and since lies are not recognized, then the interpretation of those lies becomes subjective to the convenience of the listener.

This is why cults and religions and such, gain a following, because they offer something that the followers want or think they are getting.  The next verse will bring this all together from both sides of evil.
