2 Timothy 3:17
17 That [hina] the man [anthropos] of God [theos] may be [o] perfect, [artios] throughly
furnished [exartizo] unto [pros] all [pas] good [agathos] works. [ergon] KJV-Interlinear
17 that the
man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. NASB
Man, ‘anthropos,’ means
human being. Whether you are male or female is irrelevant. All humans are referenced here.
Of God, ‘theos,’ is a
reference to the divine Trinity in general, but more important it is a
reference to the essence and principles represented by God and His
existence. And therefore, the person who
pursues and follows and adopts Gods principles, mandates, and such, to his or
her own life, is the Godly person.
Perfect, ‘artios,’ means
complete, and is the key here, for it refers to the completion of ones being,
or maturity in other swords.
Thoroughly furnished, ‘exartizo,’
adds to the completion and refers to being equipped, to finish as in the finishing
process of a building, to furnish. And
this refers to a home that has been constructed, but needs the finishing touches
to make it a functional home, ie. carpet, furniture, kitchen, bath, bedroom utensils
and accessories, paint, decorations, landscaping and on and on.
Good, ‘agathos,’ refers
to good of intrinsic value, fundamental, inherent, beneficial, valuable,
favorable.
And works, ‘ergon,’
refers to toil, work, result, occupation, and this means to make this whole
process the central and focal point of ones life, thus making all of ones
efforts and production meaningful and permanent to the benefit of ones eternal
life.
Therefore, not all that
you do in life, but all that you do from within your spiritual life, becomes
credited to you personally for eternal reward.
That reward will be provided to you at the Judgment Seat of Christ, when
one day you will stand before Him.
Any and all of your
work efforts which are done from a position out of fellowship, and therefore from
the source of the sin nature, are not credited to you.
So, we have completed
three chapters of this book, and what have we learned?
One, God has provided
you with a phenomenal opportunity. An
opportunity that is far greater than anything available or even possible in
this world. That opportunity will exist
as a reality in eternity and its value is beyond calculation.
Two, because of this
opportunity, you have an obligation to God to hear His proposal and plan specifically
for your life, as well as the general plan for all of human history.
Three, that plan
requires that you be a completed person, in all matters that are spiritual.
Four, that plan
requires that you be a member of Gods family, which membership is accomplished
through the function of salvation, which you obtain through believing in Jesus
Christ.
Five, the completion of
your life requires that you grow up within your spiritual life to maturity, and
use what you learn and know, in your daily life, which becomes your production.
Six, the source
information for that growth is Bible doctrine.
Doctrine brings you profit, spiritual profit.
Seven, you must learn
doctrine through an academic process of instruction, and learn through a daily commitment
to study.
Eight, you must be in
fellowship in order for your spiritual life and for this whole process to function
properly and become beneficial to you.
Nine, your spiritual growth
and production, completes your life and prepares you for the ultimate evaluation
of your life by Christ, when you stand before Him at the Judgment Seat of
Christ, in heaven.
Ten, the spiritually completed
person, will receive rewards, blessings, privileges and more which are all beyond
imagination, and will possess them for all of eternity.
In the spiritual life,
there is no room for compromise, no room for pretense, no room for human
invented ideas, no room for excuses. The
spiritual life must be accomplished from within the sphere of Gods
righteousness and justice, thus leaving out all human factors. Sincerity, emotions and good intentions are
all excluded.
You have a phenomenal opportunity
to define and design and obtain your next life, something that you did not have
before this current life. Don’t foul it
up by indifference and stiff necked opinions.
