Isaiah 1:28

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Isaiah 1:28

28 And the destruction [sheber] of the transgressors [pasha`] and of the sinners [chatta'] shall be together, [yachad] and they that forsake [`azab] the LORD [Yahovah] shall be consumed. [kalah] KJV-Interlinear

28 But transgressors and sinners will be crushed together, And those who forsake the Lord shall come to an end. NASB

Destruction, ‘shebar,’ means to crush, to destroy, Lam. 2:11, 3:47, Prov. 16:18.

Transgressors, ‘pasha,’ means those who rebel, revolters, those in revolt.

Sinners, ‘chatta,’ is a reference to all as a group.

Together, ‘yachad,’ means at the same time, or simultaneously.

Consumed, ‘kalah,’ means just that, to consume, to cease to exist, to vanish as though never there, to make extinct, the disappearing of time, Job 7:6, the destruction of men, Jer. 16:4, Ezek. 5:13.

Therefore, there will come a time, that is yet future, therefore this makes this statement a prophecy that is certain to occur.

At some date certain, there will come a time when Zion will be restored (from the prior verse), and the sinners that occupy it in Jerusalem and throughout the world (all inclusive), will be destroyed, all in a single fell swoop, in a single instant strike.

This prophecy has been attached to the Second Coming, when the Messiah (Jesus Christ) will arrive to establish the Kingdom of God.

And simultaneously with His return, evil as it exists on the earth at that time, will be crushed completely, and Jerusalem will be rescued and restored to righteousness.

This verse singularly states that the violence of the judgment at the Second Advent will be phenomenal and beyond imagination.

That the exuberance of rescue will likewise, be miraculous and mind boggling.

Recall from our study in Revelation, that at the time of the Second Advent, the world will be in a state of total confusion, violence and turmoil.   The blood will be flowing as high as the horses bridle, the continents and mountains and islands will be in a state of horrible earthquaking destruction.

People, mature believers, then alive will either be in Jerusalem defending it, or in the mountains hiding, as life and the world is seemingly falling apart all around them.  And yet, through it all, Christ will be protecting all believers while destroying evil.

And when it occurs, one can do nothing but stand in awe at the magnitude of all of the events that will be occurring simultaneously throughout the entire world.
