Isaiah 1:25
25 And I will turn [shuwb] my hand [yad] upon thee, and purely [bor] purge away [tsaraph] thy dross, [ciyg] and take away [cuwr] all thy tin: [badiyl]KJV-Interlinear
25 "I will also turn My hand against you, And will smelt away your dross as with lye, And will remove all your alloy. NASB
In the previous verse, the Lord will destroy His enemies and wipe them out.
The means of His destruction of all enemies, is implied by means of battle and war, waged against the enemies of God, and thus resulting in His destroying them.
Simultaneously, the fires of war, are utilized to purify those believers who need to have their eyes opened up once again, or to serve as a reminder to believers, that there is a power far above everyone, who will institute justice in many ways in order to cleanse the land of evil and wickedness.
Here the turning of the hand of God is two-fold. First it is in judgment against all who oppose God, and against all who have drifted away from God.
The second purpose is to re-establish truth as a fundamental basis for life.
And thus, the purging away of dross and the purification process of metal are processes that are accomplished by means of fire.
Dross is the impurity that is found in precious metals, such as gold and silver. Silver was referenced just a few verses ago.
Tin, does not mean tin, but is a reference to the impurities found in metals used in construction. Thus the removal of impurities in those building materials, makes for better and stronger construction.
And again, that removal is accomplished by means of fire. And thus we have our reference to war or judgment of sorts, wherein God battles evil in order to cleanse it from society, or at least reduce its presence.
During history, evil is placed in check in order to perpetuate humanity. In many respects, later generations (including you and me) who will be blessing recipients, had to arise out from earlier evil generations. Unchecked, then evil would have led to the total extinction of humanity long ago. But Gods grace preserved later generations, by keeping evil in check.
In the future, at the end of human history, then evil will be obliterated completely and forever.
The removal of dross, or the impurities of humanity, from history, serves to make those believers that remain, as a stronger people. Baptized, if you will, through the fires of life’s experiences and events.
Thus the value of the content of their soul, silver, referring to Bible doctrine in the soul, and the value of the construction of their life in to a stronger life, spiritual maturity, is accomplished and perfected by God through the many tests that come our way in life.
A soul lacking doctrine, contains faulty building material, has little value, and is not able to withstand the tests of life and reality.
A soul containing doctrine, possesses top quality building material, has great value, and is more than able to withstand the tests of life and reality.
