Psalm 17:13

13 Arise, [quwm] O LORD, [Yahovah] disappoint [qadam] him, [paniym] cast him down: [kara`] deliver [palat] my soul [nephesh] from the wicked, [rasha`] which is thy sword: [chereb] KJV-Interlinear

13 Arise, O Lord, confront him, bring him low; Deliver my soul from the wicked with Thy sword,  NASB

God is truth.  Truth is the preservative, the sustaining power, the continuation of life and all that is good.

Rejection of truth is evil, the policy of Satan.  All of the production of evil is wickedness, and is the decay, the degeneracy, the corruption of life and all that is.   Evil destroys and never produces anything good.  Evil terminates all that it touches.  Evil never creates anything except destruction and sorrow and suffering and death.

Therefore, arise, is the call to God, the God of truth.  Arise, is the call to action, to the defense, to the offensive, to stop that, which is evil, which has no purpose other than to destroy good, and thus destroy itself.

Destroy him and cast him down, is the call to halt evil, to crush evil to destroy evil and make it lay down as an enemy falls down in surrender, making all hostilities come to an end.

Deliver my soul, is the call for safety and protection from evil, from the wicked, from the ways of this world.

Which is thy sword, is a reference to the deliverance accomplished by God, for the believer, from evil.

There is only one way to escape evil and that is through the power and work of God, which is truth.

Now, you have a choice in life. You can study the Bible and learn truth, or you can avoid studying the Bible every day, and default to the principles of evil.  There are only two patterns of life, good and evil.  You choose, by means of the pattern of life that you pursue or live by, on a daily basis.

You cannot will yourself to choose good, if you do not have the principles or the mechanics for making that choice.  Simply saying it, does not make it so.  Simply acting it out, does not make it so.  Pretending it, does not make it so.

Your life in good, must be backed up with the substance of doctrine in your soul and that comes into your soul by only one way, the daily study of the scriptures.  You must be taught through instruction.  You must reside in a functioning spiritual sphere, in fellowship, by means of the regular confession of your sins to God the Father.

You must be willing to learn, and be open minded, and willing to set aside your former beliefs until the Holy Spirit, who is the mechanism of spiritual comprehension, makes truth clear to you.

You must come to an understanding of the principles of doctrine, through repeated study and application of that which you have learned.  And in so doing, you begin to develop wisdom, and that opens up the whole doorway to orientation to life and to reality, and much, much more.

Doctrine is Gods sword.  Evil is defeated by doctrine.  Doctrine is truth.  Evil is defeated by truth.  Gods sword is the wisdom learned and mastered and possessed by means of the study of doctrine.

Good choices can only be made through the clear thinking of truth.  Discernment can only be accomplished by the understanding of truth.  Avoidance of evil can only be accomplished by the knowledge of truth.
