Revelation 20:6

Revelation 20:6

6 Blessed [makarios] and [kai] holy [hagios] is he that hath [echo] part [meros] in [en] the first [protos] resurrection: [anastasis] on [epi] such [touton] the second [deuteros] death [thanatos] hath [echo] no [ou] power, [exousia] but [alla] they shall be [esomai] priests [hiereus] of God [theos] and [kai] of Christ, [Christos] and [kai] shall reign [basileuo] with [meta] him [autos] a thousand [chilioi] years. [etos] KJV-Interlinear

6 Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. NASB

All believers take part in the first resurrection, even though it comes in four separate phases.

Those who are resurrected prior to the Millennial Kingdom, will take part in the ruling of that Kingdom.

The Bible has already stated that we are a kingdom of royalty and of priests, 1 Pet. 2:9.

The second death is defined in verse 14, and that is the Lake of Fire.  For believers, there will be no second death, and therefore no Lake of Fire.  That is reserved for Satan and those who have followed him, his demon angels, and all people who reject Christ.

Unbelievers are not blessed, and therefore are not a part of the first resurrection.  Unbelievers have nothing but the second death and the Lake of Fire to look forward to for all eternity.

The 1000 years phrase is repeated, because that is the duration of Christ’s kingdom here on the earth.

It will be characterized with the universal rule of Christ, Ps 2:6-8; Dan 2:35, absolute, Ps 2:9; Isa 11:4, and righteous , Isa 11:3-5.  The rule of Christ will be a time when the believing remnant of Israel is converted, Jer 30:5-8; Rom 11:26, and the nation is restored to the land God promised to Abraham, Gen 13:14-15; 15:18.

It will be a time when the Gentile nations also will worship Christ, Isa 11:9; Mic 4:2; Zech 14:16.

The millennial rule of Christ will be marked by the presence of righteousness and peace, Isa 32:17 and joy , Isa 12:3-4; 61:3,7.

The rule of Christ will be a time when the curse is lifted , Isa 11:7-9; 30:23-24; 35:1-2,7, when food will be plentiful , Joel 2:21-27, and when there will be physical health and well-being , Isa 33:24; 35:5-6, leading to long life , Isa 65:20.

Revelation 20:5

Revelation 20:5

5 But [de] the rest [loipoy] of the dead [nekros] lived [anazao] not [ou] again [anazao] until [heos] the thousand [chilioi] years [etos] were finished. [teleo] This [houtos] is the first [protos] resurrection. [anastasis] KJV-Interlinear

5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. NASB

Our key word here is resurrection, ‘anastasis,’ which refers to a physical resurrection and not some spiritual form of non-entity or higher plane sort of existence.

The dead, that will be resurrected last, will be those who die during the Millennium, and those who remain alive through to the end of the Millennium.

The Millennium begins with believers that survive the tribulation.  These folks are still in their physical bodies.  They will propagate new generations of people and the population on the earth will grow rapidly until the end of the Millennium.

Longer lifespans will see people with ages in the hundreds of years by the end of the Millennium.  This is their first life of course.

And just as Christians who remain alive at the Rapture in our dispensation are changed, then so too, will those in the last group of living believers be changed instantly when history is completed at the end of the Millennium to their new and eternal life.

This verse does not address unbelievers.  They are never resurrected into a second life, but merely brought before Christ at the Great White Throne, to be thrown into the Lake of Fire.

The first resurrection, refers to the completion of the resurrection process of all believers, when the Millennial believers receive their resurrection bodies.

Christ was the first to be resurrected (three days after the cross), Church Age believers will be the second group at the rapture, Old Testament and Tribulation believers (who have died) will be the third group, and finally the Millennial believers will receive their resurrection at the end of the Millennium.  Thus all believers in these four groups, make up the first resurrection.

Unbelievers will make up the second resurrection, which is not a resurrection, but a calling before Gods throne for the purpose of their final judgment and second death.  They died once during their life, and they will die again, into a second death never seeing life again.

Revelation 20:4

Revelation 20:4

4 And [kai] I saw [eido] thrones, [thronos] and [kai] they sat [kathizo] upon [epi] them, [autos] and [kai] judgment [krima] was given [didomi] unto them: [autos] and [kai] I saw the souls [psuche] of them that were beheaded [pelekizo] for [dia] the witness [marturia] of Jesus, [Iesous] and [kai] for [dia] the word [logos] of God, [theos] and [kai] which [hostis] had [proskuneo] not [ou] worshipped [proskuneo] the beast, [therion] neither [oute] his [autos] image, [eikon] [kai] neither [ou] had received [lambano] his mark [charagma] upon [epi] their [autos] foreheads, [metopon] or [kai] in [epi] their [autos] hands; [cheir] and [kai] they lived [zao] and [kai] reigned [basileuo] with [meta] Christ [Christos] a thousand [chilioi] years. [etos] KJV-Interlinear

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. NASB

Since long ago, those who have believed in the Savior, have been promised that they will share in the ruling of the nations when Gods kingdom comes into being.

From Dan. 7:27 to Matt. 19:28, Old Testament believers have received this promise of ruling the nations.

New Testament believers have also received this promise, 1 Cor. 6:2, 2 Tim. 2:12, Rev. 2:26, 3:21, 5:10, and this reign is in a physical sense not in some sort of spiritual sense.  This requires a resurrection since these promises have spanned for many, many centuries.

However, here, the category of people is specific - those believers who have been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and have not bowed to the beast, or his image, or received his mark on their forehead or hand, and that alone limits this group of people to those who have lived and died during the Tribulation.

At the end of the Tribulation, when the anti-christ and his false prophet and Satan and all of the wicked have been destroyed or removed from the planet, then there will be a resurrection of the Tribulation believers.

Along with the Old Testament believers, who will also be resurrected for their long sleep, so to speak, during history, 1 Cor 15:24, Rev 20:4, Job 19:25-26, Isa 26:19, Dan 12:2, then this third segment of the First Resurrection of believers, will occur at the end of the Tribulation, and immediately prior to the beginning of the Millennium.

There are two resurrections in history, believers and then unbelievers.  Believers are the first to be resurrected, and unbelievers will be the last to be resurrected.

Believers are resurrected in four waves – Christ first (three days after the Cross), Church Age believers second (at the Rapture), Old Testament and Tribulation believers (at the end of the Tribulation), and then the last group will be the Millennial believers (at the end of the Millennium).

Unbelievers will be resurrected at the end of history (at the end of the Millennium), after all others have been resurrected.  Then they will receive their final condemnation, at the Great White Throne, and then sent to the Lake of Fire.

Believers, all having been resurrected, will witness the destruction of this universe and creation of the next universe, just as the angels witnessed the original creation of the current universe, long ago.  Then eternity begins.

Meanwhile, at the end of the tribulation, believers will finally receive their promise to reign with Christ, and to reign with Him for the 1000 year kingdom as stated here.

And they lived, is an expression for the regaining of life in a new form.  One has to have been dead before they can regain their life.  And being beheaded is an expression for death, needless to say.

Thrones, symbolize both judicial and executive authority given to resurrected believers for the purpose of ruling the Millennial kingdom as populations grow and as people begin to repopulate the world during the Millennium.

Judgment, ‘krima,’ given to the people who sit on the thrones, refers to the adjudication of disputes as in a court of law.  Where there are people, there will be disputes of one sort or another, and someone has to sit in between the parties and help settle the matters.

Isaiah 1:7

Copyright Ó 2011 J. Neely
Isaiah 1:7

7 Your country ['erets] is desolate, [shamamah] your cities [`iyr] are burned [saraph] with fire: ['esh] your land, ['adamah] strangers [zuwr] devour ['akal] it in your presence, and it is desolate, [shamamah] as overthrown [mahpekah] by strangers. [zuwr] KJV-Interlinear

7 Your land is desolate, Your cities are burned with fire, Your fields —  strangers are devouring them in your presence; It is desolation, as overthrown by strangers. NASB

In the Bible there are many symbols, and one of the main sets of symbolism is in regard to those who are family and those who are strangers (not family).

The family of God is made up of those who believe in the Savior, the Messiah, the Son of God, whom we know as Jesus Christ.

All others who do not believe in Christ are described as strangers or people who are not known.

When God made this world, He made it for believers or for His family members.  It originally belonged to God, in fact the entire universe belonged to God, was never given to the angels, and is there for an inheritance for His children.

Generally only family inherit from the parent.  Strangers or unknown people do not inherit from your family.

Since believers are family then only believers are legitimate heirs.  Strangers are not family and are not heirs.

Typically when you own something, you tend to take god care of it.  At least a responsible person does.  But when strangers acquire your stuff, they do not take good care of it.  And here is our picture in this verse.

By not being responsible in their spiritual lives, the country, the cities, the land, all that you have, are destroyed as by strangers.  When an invading army comes into your space, they take and destroy, and that is exactly what unbelievers are.  That is also what negative believers are, folks that do not take care of their possessions.

By not taking care of your soul (the previous couple of verses) you will lose the health of your soul, and that overflows into the physical world.  Your possessions, your home, your country, all that you have, will deteriorate.

Desolate, means total ruin.

Land refers to all of the production of the land, or all that you have.

Strangers, means foreigners, alienated or estranged people.  People who are in a separate category as you (not family, people who are unknown, people that you do not know, people that God does not know – no spiritual life).

If you lack a legitimate spiritual life, then whatever you have, whoever you are, will come to nothing.  You will be spending your entire life accomplishing absolutely nothing.  For when you go to heaven, assuming that you are a believer, then you go to heaven with nothing.

If you are an unbeliever, then you don’t even go to heaven.  Your nothing even gets worse in the Lake of Fire.
