Revelation 19:19
19 And [kai] I saw [eido] the beast, [therion] and [kai] the kings [basileus] of the earth, [ge] and [kai] their [autos] armies, [strateuma] gathered together [sunago] to make [poieo] war [polemos] against [meta] him that sat [kathemai] on [epi] the horse, [hippos] and [kai] against [meta] his [autos] army. 19 And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who sat upon the horse, and against His army. NASB
The last and final battle in human history will occur at the end of the Tribulation. And while the details are spelled out in Ezekiel, Zechariah, Isaiah and elsewhere, it is important to note that these details occur in bits and pieces in the Old Testament, but when brought together in this verse in Revelation, we can see that the final battle is not really one of man against man, or nation against nation, but one of evil against God.
That is the ultimate objective of Satan, to defeat God by destroying Jerusalem and thus preventing the rescue promised, or by destroying humanity, thus defeating God and preventing any of Gods promises from being kept.
In either case, Satan survives and humanity is the pawn in his evil. At least that is his plan.
Now recall our study thus far.
The world has rejected God due to Satan's promises of a utopia through the anti-christ.
The worlds hate attitude toward God is verified by their reaction to the many judgments thrust upon them by God.
The world is in a state of starvation, economic self-destruction, famine, and general chaos.
Death is all around and the only thing that people look to is still the anti-christ.
But too, there are ten kings that have had the world divided up between them, and these ten kings are demons being coordinated by Satan through the anti-christ.
Ezekiel details the final battle in Eze. 37-39. Zechariah details the defense of Jerusalem, primarily in chapter 14, and Isaiah details the judgments against the whole world, including Israel, but also the repentance of Israel and their deliverance, throughout that book, including the refusal of the whole world to repent.
Note that this gentile refusal (Tribulation gentiles) is from a distinctively different group from the ones whom the Apostles turned to (Church Age gentiles) when Jesus was rejected by the Jews. Thus again separating them from each other and distinguishing the Raptured group from those who are not Raptured.
And while Ezekiel delivers the message against Gog and Magog and such, the king of the north, the king of the south, the king of the east and west and so forth, these are all led by demon possessed leadership, rallying all of the peoples of the world into a battle of biblical proportions, so to speak.
And though while they will be fighting each other and piling bodies up as high as one can see, through sheer madness, the real battle is one of Satan versus Christ, with Satan sacrificing everyone for his own agenda, not for the benefit of anyone else.
So here in our verse, the kings of the earth and the beast (the anti-christ) whom are all possessed by Satan and his demons, are gathering all of their collective peoples into armies and leading them into battle. And getting starving people to go out and fight for the price of a meal is probably easy to accomplish. They won’t have much choice – except of course to believe in Christ and by this time, all have demonstrated their utter and stubborn rejection of Christ.
