Psalm 9:5
5 Thou hast rebuked [ga`ar] the heathen, [gowy] thou hast destroyed ['abad] the wicked, [rasha`] thou hast put out [machah] their name [shem] for ever [`owlam] and ever. [`ad] KJV-Interlinear
5 Thou hast rebuked the nations; Thou hast destroyed the wicked; Thou hast blotted out their name forever and ever. NASB
Heathen is a term that is generally used to identify those who reject or refuse to acknowledge God. Since God is truth, then that carries over to the refusal to recognize truth. Heathen is a general all inclusive term that identifies the uninformed, the uneducated (lack of knowledge of truth), and is used to identify unbelievers.
Knowledge of doctrine is wisdom, and lack of knowledge of doctrine is heathenism. Heathenism has nothing to do with social status, financial status, culture or mental capabilities or education or intellect, and so forth. A person who is a PhD can be classified as a heathen if they lack (or reject) biblical information, the same as some native that lives out in a hut or cave, who lacks doctrine.
Wicked, is a term that refers to the activities of the unbelieving public. Wickedness is the production of evil, or the doing of evil, or the proactive practice of sin and such.
Rebuke here is not a simple verbal reprimand, or something done with mere words, but it is a reprimand of action by overcoming, or vanquishing, or annihilation of those who have consciously rejected truth or God.
To blot out, is a military phrase which describes what happens to a thoroughly conquered people. They lose their identity. They lose their home. They lose all rights and recognition. They become lost to history, forgotten as though they never existed.
So, if you were to fit into this category of the heathen or the wicked because you reject truth, reject God, reject Christ, reject doctrine, and in other words reject life altogether (which life consists of all of these things), then you will become nothing more than historical filler, unidentified, forgotten, not known, lost to memory, lost forever, as though you never existed in the first place.
Why? Because by rejecting God, means rejecting reality.
