Isaiah 1:10

Isaiah 1:10

10 Hear [shama`] the word [dabar] of the LORD, [Yahovah] ye rulers [qatsiyn] of Sodom; [Cadom] give ear ['azan] unto the law [towrah] of our God, ['elohiym] ye people [`am] of Gomorrah. [`Amorah]KJV-Interlinear

10 Hear the word of the Lord, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the instruction of our God, You people of Gomorrah.  NASB

To the leaders and people of Sodom and Gomorrah, the reason for their destruction and vanishing from history, is given.

They did not listen.

They did not hear.

The second complaint is listed first.  To hear, ‘shama,’ means to hear intelligently, to discern the truth from the lies of the world, to understand what you are hearing, to know objectively.

And the first complaint, give ear, ‘azan,’ means to listen, to turn ones head (and ears) to the information and listen to it, to let the information enter into your ears so that you can absorb it and discern it, and metabolize it, to pay attention.

And to the people of Israel, like the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, like people of our current day, both leadership and people, no one was listening, no one was hearing, no one was paying attention.

They all had their own ideas as to what life was all about.  They all had their own ideas as to what the spiritual life was all about.  They all had their own priorities in life.  And none of them were compatible with truth.

All were compatible with their own emotional standards, or based on expediency, or whatever happens to be popular at the moment.

When people do not listen to truth, then they have to make up their own version of truth, and anything invented is not truth, but a lie.  A lie of invention.  A lie of imagination.  A lie of convenience.  A lie of popularity.

And when principles of life are arbitrary inventions, then morals of society become relative to whatever happens to be popular.  Anything can become truth.  And when evil becomes the standard of truth, then people suffer.

You can only know the truth, if you are positive and listen to truth.  You can only know truth, if you are positive and objective and absorb truth into your mind.  You can only know truth if you study it.
