Psalm 36:12

Psalm 36:12

12 There are the workers [pa`al] of iniquity ['aven] fallen [naphal]: they are cast down [dachah], and shall not be able [yakol] to rise [quwm].   KJV-Interlinear

12 There the evildoers lie fallen; they are thrust down, unable to rise.   ESV

Workers of iniquity, regardless of their flavor of iniquity, will fall, never try to change, and thus they remain down for good and forever.  And it is all because they refuse to learn through instruction, refuse to comply with Gods mandates, or are simply bound to their own faulty beliefs.

Iniquity covers a wide range of transgressions, not the least of which is indifference toward Bible doctrine, or anything having to do with Christ or truth.  It matters not whether you are a hardened criminal, or some wild promiscuous floozy, or the nicest person in town.

If you do not pursue you spiritual life as God has defined and designed it, then you are a person of iniquity.  And your destiny is fallen, cast down, unable to rise, a total loss.

Believers who pursue their spiritual lives, fall all of the time.  But they recover and continue moving forward as they should.

But, workers of iniquity, regardless of their flavor of iniquity, will fall, never try to change, and thus they remain down for good and forever.  And it is all because they refuse to learn through instruction, refuse to comply with Gods mandates, or are simply bound to their own faulty beliefs.

Psalm 36:11

11 Let not the foot [regel] of pride [ga`avah] come [bow'] against me, and let not the hand [yad] of the wicked [rasha`] remove [nuwd] me.   KJV-Interlinear

11 Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.   ESV

Just a quick note.  The Sunday through Friday, May 31 to June 5, studies will be Psalm 23.  I have to travel and will not be online for those days.  Posts on Facebook have already been scheduled, so there will not be a lapse in those study posts.

The foot is symbolized as the instrument of travel, or of ones daily activities, or pattern of life.

The hand is the instrument of ones efforts, or by which we do things in life.

Here the foot of pride not coming against me, is a reference to the efforts of others, in arrogance and sin, not coming against me, and certainly not trampling me.  So says David, and so says the spiritually advancing believer.

The prayer is directed to God the Father, as all prayers are directed.

And, as we look to God, for His grace and mercy, so too, we look to God for protection from the evils of this world.

Whether by the patterns, philosophies, or opinions of the world, within the environment that we live, or by the actions of the world, there is no shortage of wickedness, no shortage of the influences, no shortage of the distractions, no shortage of the peer pressures that are out there just waiting to derail our spiritual life.

Your only protection in all things, whether good or bad, is from the Lord Jesus Christ who does all of the work of deity.

Your only access to Gods protections comes through prayer directed to the Father, who in turn grants, or not, the prayer which Christ  acts upon.  And of course it is all performed while within fellowship, where the Holy Spirit controls the spiritual environment.

Romans 4:11

Romans 4:11

11 And [kai] he received [lambano] the sign [semeion] of circumcision [peritome], a seal [sphragis] of the righteousness [dikaiosune] of the faith [pistis] which [ho] he had yet being [en] uncircumcised [akrobustia]: that [eis] he [autos] might be [einai] the father [pater] of all [pas] them that believe [pisteuo], though [dia] they be not circumcised [akrobustia]; that [eis] righteousness [dikaiosune] might be imputed [logizomai] unto them [autos] also [kai]:   KJV-Interlinear

11 He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,   ESV

A seal is a legal mark that ratifies and makes binding, an agreement between two or more parties.  Typically wax was used and then a mark of some sort was imprinted in the wax.

The ritual of circumcision, is a symbol of the seal of the promise from God to Abraham.

Today we have notaries who validate the signatures, and the contract they sign is binding when recorded on some public record for all to see and acknowledge.

Back in Abrahams day, God made the circumcision, which is an irreversible mark on the male, as the symbolic seal, ratifying the agreement between God and Abraham, which agreement was extended to all of humanity.  Gods promise dates back to Adam, and before that, the divine decrees which were written in eternity past.

Later, after the Cross, the seal was changed to a more binding seal, which is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, which comes to everyone who believes in Christ, and it occurs at the moment of their initial belief. The seal is binding and irreversible.

And thus, Abraham became the father of all believers, by means of this pattern of faith.

Adam believed.
Abraham believed.
All believers believe in order to receive salvation.

Once saved, always saved.

Faith is irreversible.
Gods fulfilment of His promise is irreversible.
Birth is irreversible and the rebirth is likewise irreversible.

You cannot unborn yourself.

You cannot undo your initial act of faith.  Once done, it is done.

Romans 4:10

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Romans 4:10

10 How [pos] was it [logizomai] then [oun] reckoned [logizomai]? when he was [on] in [en] circumcision [peritome], or [e] in [en] uncircumcision [akrobustia]? Not [ou] in [en] circumcision [peritome], but [alla] in [en] uncircumcision [akrobustia].   KJV-Interlinear

10 How then was it counted to him? Was it before or after he had been circumcised? It was not after, but before he was circumcised.   ESV

Righteousness came to Abraham, by means of His faith, which is his belief in Gods promise, and it came to him before he was circumcised, Gen. 15:6.

It was not until much later, Gen. 17:10, that God commanded him to be circumcised, which then became a sign or recognition, of his faith, not the means or method of salvation.

And so, works is rejected as the means of salvation, and by the same principle, works is rejected in all facets of the spiritual life.

Human works does not gain you any credit or brownie points with God.

Only faith.

And by faith, which is a general expression, is the means of all aspects of the spiritual life.  Whether you are confessing, studying, learning, memorizing, praying, whatever.  This is all by means of faith.

For the basis of faith is that you believe all that God has promised.

Believe and you will be saved.
Confess and you will be forgiven and restored into fellowship.
Ask and you will receive.
Study and you will learn.
Advance in your spiritual life and you will become mature.
Whatever it is that you do, (helping the little old lady across the street, changing diapers, working at your job, driving your car, sleeping in bed, taking out the trash, Bible study, praying, giving, etc. etc. etc), when in fellowship, you then are credited with divine good.

The key is, when in fellowship.  Then your effort is divine good (gold, silver, precious stones).

But when out of fellowship, and be careful of your intentions here too, for wrong intentions are a sin, then your efforts whatever they may be, are not divine good, but human good, and no spiritual credit is given for human good (wood, hay, stubble).

Therefore the date of circumcision is important, in that it came after Abraham had already believed and had already been credited.

Circumcision is representative of works, human works, or so many people would have you believe.

But actually, circumcision is an overt recognition of God and His promises, and of the faith that has already occurred. The recognition comes after the fact, and is not the cause of the fact.

Today we have many such recognitions, baptism, communion, Christmas, Easter, memorials, and so forth.  These things are there to serve as reminders of faith and of Gods faithfulness and promises, and entire realm of the spiritual life.  They are not the cause of salvation or of the spiritual life.

Isaiah 28:22

Copyright Ó 2015 J. Neely
Isaiah 28:22

22 Now therefore be ye not mockers [luwts], lest your bands [mowcer] be made strong [chazaq]: for I have heard [shama`] from the Lord ['Adonay] GOD [Y@hovih] of hosts [tsaba'] a consumption [kalah], even determined [charats] upon the whole earth ['erets].   KJV-Interlinear

22 Now therefore do not scoff, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord GOD of hosts against the whole land.   ESV

Far too often, people do not take seriously, the spiritual aspects of life.  They over-rate themselves, and miss entirely the reason why that God placed them here in this world. They play their little games of pretense, or they are simply not interested.  But whatever their reason for not genuinely recognizing or pursuing their spiritual responsibilities, Isaiah makes their danger very clear.

Be warned that you need to listen and learn.  For most people do not listen, and therefore, do not learn, and therefore become by default, mockers not only of scripture but of life and reality.  And their mocking is by indifference or presumption of their own invented knowledge.

And the warning is simply this.

God has decreed destruction, not only for the individual, not only for some given region or country, but for the entire world.

And while people play their little wishful games such as for love and world peace, and for everyone to just get along, those things will never happen.  Not learning doctrine means that you will never understand the seriousness of life or of history or where it is all heading or even why.

You likewise lose out on the completion of your own self, and that is a huge loss to stupidity.

The decree is not just a possibility, nor even something that might be averted.  It is coming with certainty.

But knowing that there is an end of the world scenario, does not mean that you do nothing.  While most will ignore these truths and become a part of why the world will end, even if indirectly, the very few, and perhaps you will be one of the few, will get with a daily study and grow up in their spiritual life, and, as a result get in line for the phenomenal blessings that God has also decreed for the spiritually mature.  Which blessings are likewise certain.

But you have to decide, day after day, whether you will be the wise or the fool, whether you will dedicate yourself to learning Bible doctrine, or continue to play the pretend games that so many do.
