Isaiah
26:9
9 With my soul [nephesh] have I
desired ['avah] thee in the night [layil]; yea, with my spirit [ruwach] within [qereb] me will I seek thee early
[shachar]: for when thy judgments [mishpat] are in the earth ['erets],
the inhabitants [yashab] of the world [tebel] will learn [lamad]
righteousness [tsedeq]. KJV-Interlinear
9 My soul yearns for you in the night; my
spirit within me earnestly seeks you. For when your judgments are in the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. ESV
The soul is the
real essence of what you are. What you
think is the content of what and who you are.
Your deepest inner desire reflects the pattern of life that you have
chosen for yourself.
And when your thoughts
and intents and motivations are directed toward God, knowing God, which is
knowing truth, which is the means of completing your total self, then your
priorities in life are correct and on track.
Anything else is a
pretense, a delusion, a straying away from orientation with life and reality.
The judgments of
the earth, refers to all the problems, all of the responsibilities, all of the
obligations, all of the distractions, all that exists. And all of these and more, serve but one
purpose, which is not so you could have a better life now, but so you can learn
righteousness, which means Gods will and purpose and intent for all of creation
and all of history and all that is, especially knowing and understanding the
real difference between right and wrong, and why that difference exists in the
first place.
Your focus should be
in the day and in the night, and not drifting along in a fog, aimlessly, but
focused on your future. And your future
is not the here and now only, but it is eternity.
And eternity is
where you will spend the lions share of your total existence.
Your here and now
is but a blink, if even that, on the timeline of your entire eternal life.
To place all of
your thoughts and focus on the now only, is extremely short sighted.
The inhabitants of
the earth refers to everyone.
All of creation and
all that occurs in the daily life of everyone, is there in order to teach
truth.
