Isaiah 24:9

Isaiah 24:9

9 They shall not drink [shathah] wine [yayin] with a song [shiyr]; strong drink [shekar] shall be bitter [marar] to them that drink [shathah] it.   KJV-Interlinear

9 No more do they drink wine with singing; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it.   ESV

When the pressures of life are overwhelming, then the pleasures expected from distractions no longer appease, no longer satisfy, no longer achieve their intended purpose.

The relief, sought through escapism activities, becomes elusive.  The activity, whether drinking or music or through drugs or whatever it is that is used to hide the ugly realities of life, not only don’t provide relief, but the escape activities become bitter.

Sorrows and anxieties and the pressures of life, prevent anything from easing their burdens.

And when you pursue relief through activities that are unable to solve your problems, then failure and worse is the only outcome.  The emotional and mental spiral downward only adds to the misery.

Distractions from reality, never solve problems, they only aggravate the problems into far worse problems.
