Psalm 24:6
6 This is the generation [dowr] of them that seek [darash]
him, that seek [baqash] thy face, [paniym] O Jacob. [Ya`aqob] Selah. [celah] KJV-Interlinear
6 This
is the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Thy face — even Jacob. Selah. NASB
Generation here refers to
a class of people, not just a historical group of people limited to a single period
of time in history.
Jacob lived hundreds of years
and several actual generations before David, so the time limitation in the use
of the word for generation is eliminated and replaced with a more categorical
meaning.
In this case, there are
unbelievers who are not of God, believers who are fakes in their spiritual life,
and then there are those who actually comply with Gods mandates and expected requirements
for the spiritual life.
Jacob, is a reference to
those who seek the face of God, not those who pretend their way to God just to
show off before people for the approbation of people.
This is a humility of
soul and thought, by means of complying with Gods mandates.
There are those, and far
too many in fact, who seek the pursuit of pretense, while continuing their own
defined way through life. Whether
do-gooders, self-righteous types, or phony personalities that want only to
persuade people for some selfish agenda for their own advancement for the accumulation
of money, control, power, attention, popularity or what have you. It is these who are not of the legitimate
generation or class of genuine people of God.
As already stated, it is
God who defined the boundaries of the seas of the lands, and certainly of the
spiritual life, not man. Man actually
does not define much of anything, except things that are an exception to what
God has already done.
And under Gods terms, you
have to adopt His policy and methods which begin with the learning of doctrine,
the transformation of your minds into His truths, thus leading to a true
pattern of life by which you live your day to day life in fellowship, and by
that means being identified as a righteous person, thus qualified for Gods
favor and blessings.
These then, are the
spiritual generation, the spiritual category of people, regardless of when they
live in history, throughout history. Those who comply with Gods plan rather
than their own self-centered and self-serving plan of convenience.
The self-serving pretense
crowd, hold on to the world and its enticements while living their lie.
The true Christians study
in order to learn correctly and then live by the correct standards which God
has established. God established the
seas and the order of life, and that includes the method by which we can have a
legitimate relationship with Him.
