Psalm 24:2
2 For he hath founded [yacad] it upon the seas, [yam] and
established [kuwn] it upon the floods. [nahar] KJV-Interlinear
2 For
He has founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the rivers. NASB
Founded, ‘yacad,’ means
to establish, to sit down together, to set, to settle.
The seas, ‘yam,’ means to
roar, or a roaring, noise as in the noise of the breaking surf.
Established, ‘kuwn,’
means to erect, to stand perpendicular, to set up, to appoint, to fashion, to
fasten, to order, to ordain.
Floods, ‘nahar,’ means a
stream, an over flowing, prosperity.
And so God has founded or
established the land, the dry land, above the waters of the world, and has made
them inhabitable, and has preserved them for the living, and for the production
of prosperity.
Having made the land and
the place of habitation, wherein neither man nor angel has made anything, then
God owns both the creation of the universe and the world, and has also
fashioned it for the living for the purpose of life and prosperity.
Without God, the waters
of the natural elements, the wild and noisy and troublesome seas, would inundate
the land and there would be no living people or animals, as there would be no
dry land on which to live.
Likewise, life did not
rise up out of the water to establish people or animals.
God established the land,
in order to establish life. He is the
author and designed and creator and finisher of all life.
He is the owner by means
of creation and by means of His fashioning from design. The purpose of the land
was to establish man and animal life, for life and for prosperity.
