Psalm 18:28

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Psalm 18:28

28 For thou wilt light ['owr] my candle: [niyr] the LORD [Yahovah] my God ['elohiym] will enlighten [nagahh] my darkness. [choshek] KJV-Interlinear

28 For Thou dost light my lamp; The Lord my God illumines my darkness. NASB

Light in the scriptures is used to illustrate a clear view of ones surroundings, making it easy to understand and discern who you are, what you are, where you are going.  It illustrates your current position and your path of life with purpose and meaning.  It illustrates prosperity, success, happiness, and holiness.

Darkness represents the opposite, such as confusion, uncertainty, poverty, loss, suffering, failure to discern or understand life around you, and so forth.

Darkness is the state of the world.  The world is the environment you live in and Bible doctrine is the light that helps you see life clearly.

So the candle is the source of light, or Bible doctrine, and the enlightenment of my darkness is the function of your life in the light within the world of darkness that surrounds you.

Without light you cannot even see the nose on your face.  With light, you can see clearly, everything that is around you and then figure out how to get from point to point in life.

Without light, you cannot know where you are going let alone know where you are.  You are totally lost, but just do not know it.

Therefore, even though you can easily see your surroundings, since you have eyes and the senses to get along in this world, there is still the larger world, the spiritual world, that you cannot see or even detect.  And it is that world that decides who you are, where you are, where you are going, and where you will end up when this life comes to an end.

Bible doctrine, once you learn it and keep on learning it, helps you get to a better finish, a successful finish, a phenomenal finish for this life and thus is a very good preparation for the next life.

Lack of doctrine, is what you have when you decide that you do not need doctrine, that you know enough already, and will be surprised even embarrassed, when your life comes to an end, and then you discover too late, that you were the fool.

A typical child is born, grows up and attends school until the age of perhaps twenty-two.  Even after college, the learning does not stop, it is only a beginning.  You need several more years to apply your knowledge and then learn better ways of using your training.  That could easily put you to age twenty-five or thirty.

If you have not dedicated about twenty years, or more, of your life to a daily Bible study, then you are not prepared.  Your daily study is your academic study in the spiritual realm.  Without a consistent and long term study program under your belt, you are neither prepared, nor can you be prepared to go it alone in this world, because your spiritual foundation is lacking.

Your path in life lasts your entire life.  Stop your studies and you turn off the lights in your travels through life and you are left with traveling in the dark.  You can easily get lost, have a wreck, or worse.

Don’t refuse to light your lamp (your daily study) and certainly don’t turn your lights off (your application of that doctrine) by presuming that you know enough or know it all.

Ephesians 4:16

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 4:16

16 From [ek] whom [hos] the whole [pas] body [soma] fitly joined together [sunarmologeo] and [kai] compacted [sumbibazo] by [dia] that which every [pas] joint [haphe] supplieth, [epichoregia] according [kata] to the effectual working [energeia] in [en] the measure [metron] of every [hekastos] part [heis], [meros] maketh [poieo] increase [auxesis] of the body [soma] unto [eis] the edifying [oikodome] of itself [heautou] in [en] love. [agape] KJV-Interlinear

16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. NASB

On the surface this seems to be a difficult verse to understand, but in reality this is a very simple verse to understand.

In summary, all of the parts contribute to the whole and all of the many parts are just as important as any other part of the body or family of God.

There is no insignificant believer.  There is no more significant believer.  All are in Christ and all depend entirely on Christ.  Jesus Christ selects those whom He chooses for His purposes, and He has many purposes and a purpose for every believer.  Christ decides who He will use and how He will use them.  Man has no right to claim credit for their place in history.

Solomon built a temple. Joseph provided a tomb. Mary gave birth to Jesus.  The other Marys wrapped the corpse in spices. Lydia entertained the apostle.  Phoebe carried an epistle of old.  The princes and heroes went to the field.  Wise-hearted women spun.  Joshua fought.  Moses prayed. The snuffers and trays were just as important as the lampstand.  Hundreds of craftsmen did specific tasks in the construction of the Temple.

Each and every person who has ever lived has had a unique ability that God has given specifically to them.  Most never use their abilities to the fullest, because they are lacking in their spiritual lives, but some do utilize their God given abilities.

Whether applicable for ones individual life, or for an entire generation, whether for a small region or for the entire history of humanity, God has a plan, and in that plan He has given gifts and abilities to individuals that perpetuate, sustain, and advance His plan.

Very piece, of Gods plan, every individual has a specific purpose and contribution to that plan as well as their own individual life.

While we all look to ourselves individually, we are all a part of a far greater plan and purpose.  And while we all have different abilities or talents, or capabilities or characteristics, or circumstances and so forth, we all have a God designed role that not only affects ourselves, but has an impact on others, most of whom we probably will never know.

Therefore, God neatly fits and knits together all of His family such that each and every member plays a role of some kind within their own lives and within Gods plan.  The entire family of God is connected in some fashion.

Each has an energy of measure, which simply means that each person has a different measure of contribution, neither of which is lesser or greater than the other. All are there for Gods intended purpose no matter how great or how small the contribution may seem to us.

And all are tied together by the one and only common thread that connects all believers, throughout all of history, namely Bible doctrine, 'agape,’ which is the content of the scriptures taught by means of Gods instructional design, and learned by all people from the time of Adam, until now and into the future for all of human history.

Ephesians 4:15

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 4:15

15 But [de] speaking the truth [aletheuo] in [en] love, [agape] may grow up [auxano] into [eis] him [autos] in all things, [pas] which [hos] is [esti] the head, [kephale] even Christ: [Christos] KJV-Interlinear

15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him, who is the head, even Christ, NASB

Instead  of being fooled by slick and smooth or enticing rhetoric or ideas, the individual believer needs to be able to think, to communicate, to utilize truth in all of its accuracy instead of thinking in terms of advantage, in terms of compromise, in terms of selfish motives and so forth.

Love, ‘agape,’ represents the content of doctrine, its principles, mandates, precepts, and so forth.  Doctrine may be the written word in the scriptures, but doctrine is far more, in that as it fills up the soul, it becomes the gateway to see the realities of life as in the sciences of physics, geology, medicine, anatomy, economics, and on and on.

All of the establishment principals are incorporated in the scriptures, and even though many topics are never spelled out per se, their principles are made clear through the understanding and application of doctrine.

The Bible is like a tiny little doorway, that when you walk through it by means of your studies, you enter into a whole new universe of knowledge so vast that you could not possibly learn it all in an infinite number of lifetimes.

But here is our mandate.  We are to grow up, ‘auxano,’ meaning to enlarge, to increase, to grow, or the process of growing.

In Him, is the reference to the person of Christ, in the written form.  Bible doctrine is the written Christ.

Therefore, growing up in Christ is the process of learning and assimilating Bible doctrine, and therefore the transformation of oneself into the knowledge and understanding of Bible doctrine, which is the gateway to truth and far more.

The head, is the driving force of the whole body.  Without the head, the body has no function, no life, no purpose.

Jesus Christ is the Head of all things. He is doctrine, or truth, and therefore the access and means to understanding of all things that are knowable by man, and far more.

To know, means to have doctrine in your soul.  To have doctrine in your soul, means that you must submit yourself to the instruction of Bible doctrine and then stick with your daily studies throughout your life.  Your daily studies are the consumption of spiritual meals necessary for the health and growth of your soul. Thus daily meals lead to a healthy soul and knowledge and understanding.

Therefore, your objective in life, is to learn and then to understand and use truth, and there is only one way to accomplish that, and you cannot do it on your own.

Ephesians 4:14

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Ephesians 4:14

14 That [hina] we henceforth be [o] no more [meketi] children, [nepios] tossed to and fro, [kludonizomai] and [kai] carried about with [periphero] every [pas] wind [anemos] of doctrine, [didaskalia] by [en] the sleight [kubeia] of men, [anthropos] and cunning craftiness [en], [panourgia] whereby [pros] they lie in wait [methodeia] to deceive; [plane] KJV-Interlinear

14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; NASB

The purpose of the ministry in dealing with the communication or instruction or teaching of the Word of God, is to educate people in the many truths of life.  And one of those truths is that the world will go to great lengths to fool, to make ambiguous, to simulate truth and so forth so as to confuse and mislead.

Children here is a term that represents the uninitiated, the impressionable, those easily led astray with false teachings.  Children has nothing to do with ones physical age, but with ones understanding in knowledge.

Sleight of hand, is a reference to teachings that appeal to the emotions, teachings that are made to appear as though they also came from Christ, but do not, teachings that promote one thought but lead to another agenda, bait and switch, teachings that are deceitful.

Cunning craftiness, are teachings or opinions that employ methods that might seem harmless, but also come with ulterior motives.

Without the clear instruction of doctrine, people are unable to understand the truths of life. Truths that include the hazards that come from the world.

Without doctrine, no one is able to see through the fog of life, no one.  You cannot ascertain truth, or clarity of thought, or orientation to anything unless you have some solid standard to measure against.  Doctrine is that standard.

Without a standard, an unmovable standard, then everything becomes relative, and whatever is popular becomes the norm.  Once it was popular to burn heretics, or witches.  Some cultures easily find bias against others.

Look around the community or the world, and you will find group after group that has set up standards by which they live.  And while some or all may seem innocent, sooner or later these compromised and simple standards always lead eventually to more horrible standards and atrocities.  But then folks will always deny that their standards could never lead in that direction.  And so goes the deception, even self-deceptions of the world.

The naïve will never see it.  Only the educated, and more specifically the spiritually educated, have the inner resources to discern between that which is truth, and that which is false.  Therefore, God has set up a mechanism for the teaching and the learning of Bible doctrine that is designed not only to help you grow up to spiritual maturity, but along the way, to help you discern between that which is right and that which is wrong and to even avoid the evils of the world where possible.

Isaiah 5:26

Copyright Ó 2012 J. Neely
Isaiah 5:26

26 And he will lift up [nasa'] an ensign [nec] to the nations [gowy] from far, [rachowq] and will hiss [sharaq] unto them from the end [qatseh] of the earth: ['erets] and, behold, they shall come [bow'] with speed [maherah] swiftly: [qal]  KJV-Interlinear

26 He will also lift up a standard to the distant nation, And will whistle for it from the ends of the earth; And behold, it will come with speed swiftly. NASB

The ensign or standard, is a flag representing the colors of the army unit.  When it is seen or hoisted, that was a signal to rally around the flag and follow those colors into battle or wherever they might lead you.

The hiss, comes from Isa. 7:18, wherein the Lord will call or whistle or blow a flute or some instrument, and those who hear, will come to its call.  In the ancient world, bees were called out of their hives into the fields and back to the hives, with flute like calls.

And so it is used here to demonstrate that the Lord controls history, not man.  He uses His power and intellect and plan, and ability and so forth, to call forth the nations from the far distant places, to rally and come to participate in the destruction being executed.

In this case, Judah was the target of Gods judgment.

This principle teaches how God controls history by means of the use of peoples and nations when they pursue their own agendas regardless of whether they are righteous or not.

God can use evil to rise up against evil, or evil to rise up against righteous, or righteous to rise up against evil, and these combinations have occurred over and over, again and again throughout history.  Peoples have risen up to combat people, but God in all of His wisdom, knew about these conflicts in eternity past, long before they were to occur.

And while these situations did occur in the history of Israel and Judah, their enemies did not come from the far reaches of the world.  That truth will not occur until the end of history in the Tribulation, as well as at the very end of the Millennium.  Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, and even Rome may have been considered the ends of the earth in that time, but the real ends of the earth will not become operational until the final days of history.

In the Tribulation, the world will be filled with evil and evil will rise up against evil and destroy itself.

At the end of the Millennium evil will rise up against the righteous and evil will be destroyed.

At the end of our dispensation, the Church Age, evil will rise up in a great apostasy from the far reaches of the world, and God will remove the righteous in the Rapture, leaving the evil to its own devices.  And even out of that pit, many will rise up and believe in Christ and some will survive the worldwide destructive forces until the Second Advent.

The point here is, that even when people, or organizations, or political parties, or nations, or empires seem to have their own agenda, it is really God who is Jesus Christ, that is in control of their inevitable actions.

Man does not control his own destiny.  Man cannot cause his own birth, cannot time his own death, and cannot control his afterlife once he is gone from this world.
