Isaiah 5:21
21 Woe [howy] unto them that are
wise [chakam] in their own eyes, [`ayin] and prudent [biyn] in their
own sight [paniym]! KJV-Interlinear
21 Woe
to those who are wise in their own eyes, And clever in their own sight! NASB
This is the third woe and
the fifth transgression specified in this chapter.
Human wisdom and prudence,
are self-assumptions of facts and realities that do not exist.
Wise in ones own eyes
means being inflated with false opinions or beliefs, based not on truth, but on
ones own knowledge, regardless of where it comes from, and demonstrating a self
confidence in those opinions even when they are false.
This can be easily
demonstrated with the example of kids and foods. They look as something and
decide immediately if they like it or not.
It may be the package, or the look of the food, but their decision is
based solely on an opinion that lacks any knowledge or evidence, or even
testing the food.
They like or dislike,
without proofs of any kind, which could easily be changed with an empirical approach,
which is simply tasting the food, with objectivity of course, and then
deciding.
As people get older, then
even empirical approaches can get twisted.
Monkeys have arms and legs, therefore the interpretation is that they
are basketball players. Right?
I josh of course, but
evolution takes facts and then misinterprets them into wrong conclusions. Likewise, government takes socialism and
makes it out to be other than what it really is, a disaster. And the general public will believe the lies.
Anytime, opinions deviate
from divine establishment principles, then they are false principles. Anytime spiritual criteria deviates from
doctrine, it is false. Anytime analysis
deviates from objectivity, it is false.
When people do not
possess doctrine in their soul, then they do not have the basis or foundation
for being able to orient to self, to life, to God, to reality, and so forth.
Doctrine is the
prerequisite for being able to figure out and to understand life and all that
is in it.
Without doctrine, you are
limited to understanding anything and everything, and that limit will fail you
sooner or later. And that failure, is
the woe, of this verse.
Wrong conclusions lead to
misunderstanding and wrong decisions, and eventually great loss and disaster.
