Isaiah 7:5

5 Because Syria, ['Aram] Ephraim, ['Ephrayim] and the son [ben] of Remaliah, [Ramalyahuw] have taken evil [ra`] counsel [ya`ats] against thee, saying, ['amar] KJV-Interlinear

5 'Because Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying, NASB

And why are these two kings and their countries nothing more than a fire that is ready to go out, nothing more than smoke and ashes?

They are going to meet their end, for the same reason that every country, for the same reason that every person, eventually meets their end. And that is because they have spoken against God in some fashion.

As we will see in the coming verses, the agenda against Judah and the house of David, is in fact an anti-God agenda.

But then every activity, every thought, every intent, that rejects or opposes or takes an indifferent posture against anything or everything that is truth, is only preparing the way for their own demise.

If you ignore God, if you ignore Christ, if you ignore doctrine, if you pick and choose among any of these, if you invent your own version of any of these, if you play the pretend game with any of these, if you take the obligations or responsibilities or God assigned purposes for your life and reject them or ignore them or remain indifferent toward them, then you are in effect taking an anti-God position.  You are digging your own pit.

Both of these kings were preparing for war and their aim was to destroy Judah and Ahaz.

Your anti-God posture may not be so dramatic as this, but the same result will occur.

God has designed the laws of divine establishment.  God invented roles for man and woman.  God has defined many levels of authority. God has designed every aspect of life for the purpose of allowing you to succeed in life, and any opposition or opposing attitude will make you the fool of fools as you are in affect designing your own misery and doom.

So why would anyone do such a dumb thing to themselves?
