Ephesians 5:12

Two concepts are in view
here. The first is the conversation or
attention given to evil things, all manner of evil things. And the things that are done in secrecy, such
as to hide the activity.
The first concept deals
with the attraction or the compromise in moral values that makes conversation
or attention regarding immoral
activities, acceptable.
And today we have all
manner of acceptability of evil activities.
Even the many and various television shows and movies create the
impression of the acceptability and normalcy of evil morals (alternative
lifestyles, drugs, indifference toward truth).
Laws of today have made evil legal (no prayer), as opposed to making
legitimate activities (prayer), illegal.
I am sure that you can think of many more examples.
And here the Bible
clearly states that these practices as shameful, ‘aischron,’ meaning venal or corrupt,
indecorum or offensive, filthy, base or sordid, disgraceful, disfigurement of
truth.
Typically, evil activities
were those things that people did in secret.
People still do these things in secret, when hiding their activities
from friends, family, the public in general and so forth. If you are doing something that requires
secrecy such that you do not want your friends or family to find out or know
about, then it is wrong, and you certainly know that it is wrong, otherwise you
would not try to hide it.
And when these various activities
or beliefs come out in the public view and become acceptable in society, what
does that tell you about the spiritual state of society?
And today we have so many
things that are publically acceptable now, that even raising children is made
more difficult as they do not see the problem with how people live their lives,
thus making their conscience level regarding evil, more acceptable of evil.
The conscience is one of
your primary restrainers of evil. You know
what is right and what is wrong. And
when these boundaries become ambiguous, undefined, watered down, compromised,
then society will see more and more evil along with the problems that accompany
evil.
And the biggest losser in
all of this, is truth. People lose sight
of truth, lose sight of doctrine, lose sight of the discernment between right
and wrong, and thus everything allowed in public, becomes acceptable.
This leads to your
compromise of moral standards. You yourself
will watch television series that promote alternate lifestyles, and you will
see nothing more than a comedy show, which, over time, will influence both you,
your children and society in the wrong direction, and out of yours and their
spiritual life.
The whole direction of a
compromised society moves everyone in the wrong direction and needless to say,
right down the road to eventual destruction.
The whole problem with this is that it occurs over a long and extended
time period, even across generations, so getting trapped is subtle.
