Isaiah 1:2
2 Hear, [shama`] O heavens, [shamayim] and give ear, ['azan] O earth: ['erets] for the LORD [Yahovah] hath spoken, [dabar] I have nourished [gadal] and brought up [ruwm] children, [ben] and they have rebelled [pasha`] against me. KJV-Interlinear
2 Listen, O heavens, and hear, O earth; For the Lord speaks, "Sons I have reared and brought up, But they have revolted against Me. NASB
Hear, ‘shama,’ means to listen with intelligence. Do not listen with a closed mind or in stupidity or indifference, but listen and know and understand beyond any doubt, that which is being said.
Hear and listen.
The universe in its entirety and the earth specifically is called to attention when God speaks. God is the creator of all that is. He is the designer and the inventor and the sustainer of all that is.
That which is being said is so important that it applies to all of existence, and should never be taken lightly nor disregarded. No one has anything more important to say, than God.
The Lord, ‘Yahovah,’ is the personal name and reference for the second person of the Trinity. It means ‘to be’ or ‘self existent one.’ It was repeated to Moses at the burning bush, ‘I am,’ and refers to the one and only being, God, who simply exists and is the fountain and origin of all that is.
God has made and raised up and taught and helped to grow, children of His choosing. People who have believed in the Savior and His plan.
No one is a self made person. No one is in control of their own destiny. No one possesses self determination.
God raises up all who live in this world, for God controls history. Jesus Christ controls history.
From the time in which you were introduced into history (your birth), to the environment, people and circumstances into which you were born and live your life, to the very moment of your death, God is there every step and breath of the way in your life. God is the provider of all that is. There is nothing in your life that was not considered and provision made in eternity past, when the divine decrees were established.
Nothing takes God by surprise. Nothing is needed beyond the content of the divine decrees. God has considered everything and has made provision for everything no matter how insignificant in your life.
And yet, people disregard God, and thus rebel by means of indifference or apathy or antagonism, to their own detriment.
God is truth, and when anyone rebels (fails to function in their spiritual life), they rebel against truth and thus against God. God has laid out a perfect plan for your life, and when you do not comply with that plan, you throw away perfection, in hopes that you might be able to do something better. And that is impossible for any person to achieve.
No one can better God.
