Revelation 5:9

DailyBibleStudy.Org

9 And [kai] they sung [ado] a new [kainos] song, [ode] saying, [lego] Thou art [ei] worthy [axios] to take [lambano] the book, [biblion] and [kai] to open [anoigo] the seals [sphragis] thereof: [autos] for [hoti] thou wast slain, [sphazo] and [kai] hast redeemed [agorazo] us [hemas] to God [theos] by [en] thy [sou] blood [haima] out of [ek] every [pas] kindred, [phule] and [kai] tongue, [glossa] and [kai] people, [laos] and [kai] nation; [ethnos] KJV-Interlinear

9 And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy art Thou to take the book, and to break its seals; for Thou wast slain, and didst purchase for God with Thy blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. NASB

‘And they,’ the twenty-four elders, who represent the already glorified believers. Glorified because they have already received their resurrection bodies, and are wearing their crowns of glory, which we studied some time ago. Having been removed from the earth in the Rapture, they are in heaven and are witness to the unsealing of the scroll, by the one and only person who is able to unseal it.

They will sing this new song, of praise and worship of Jesus Christ, who is described here as the one who took upon Himself, the sacrifice on the Cross, symbolized here by the term, ‘blood.’

And by His action on the Cross, He in effect paid the purchase price, ‘agorazo,’ which means to purchase a slave from the slave market and then giving him his immediate freedom.

That freed slave, has the choice to follow Christ, or to return to the slave market. Those who believe in Christ retain their freedom and go with Christ. Those who reject Christ, return to their former state as slaves, having nowhere to go.

Every tribe, tongue, people and nation, is an all inclusive expression referring to the entire human race.

Jesus Christ controls history. Jesus Christ set free, all of humanity, from sin and death.

Some will reject this gift, and return to their former slave ways and then they will be sent away to the Lake of Fire, a place where God will not exist for them. But then that is what they want. They simply do not realize the high cost they will pay for their wish.

Jesus Christ will be accepted by a great multitude of peoples throughout the ages, and it is for them, that He went to the Cross, for they accepted His work, and it is because of who and what Christ is, and what He has done, that makes Him worthy. The only one in existence who is qualified to complete history for the benefit of believers, for the benefit of that which is good, and for the benefit of a continued and forever life for all who has accepted and believed in Him.

When you go to a sports event, and your team wins, what do you do at the end of the contest? You cheer and sing the song of victory. And in heaven, people (you and me and many, many others) will be singing the song of victory. The ultimate victory for all of history.
