1 Timothy 6:20

DailyBibleStudy.Org

20 O [o] Timothy, [Timotheos] keep [phulasso] that which is committed to thy trust, [parakatatheke] avoiding [ektrepo] profane [bebelos] and vain babblings, [kenophonia] and [kai] oppositions [antithesis] of science [gnosis] falsely so called: [pseudonumos] KJV-Interlinear

20 O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called "knowledge" — NASB

Paul reminds Timothy to keep, ‘phulasso,’ to guard, to preserve, or protect as one would something cherished such as a child or treasure.

And what is he to protect? That which has been placed in his trust, ‘parakatatheke,’ a deposit, something committed to your care or possession, a sacred holding, something placed before you.

And that something is Bible doctrine, or truth, as opposed to false things. Only true things have value. All false things have zero value. Why would you protect or hold to something that has no value?

Only truth continues forever and exists in reality. False things exist only in the mind of those who are under their delusion, and have no reality in them.

Worldly and empty chatter, refers to empty opinions, empty observations, incorrect interpretations, all things that stand in opposition to Bible doctrine.

And all false things or opinions present themselves as knowledge, but are not even close.

Truth promotes freedom, liberty, justice, self-determination, prosperity, privacy, wealth, security, fulfillment, contentment, happiness.

False philosophies and ideas claim these things, but are merely manipulations of greed against the naïve, in order to advance lust and various categories of sin and evil. All false concepts lead to disaster.

Even scientific conclusions that cater to false interpretations, claim science as their proof, but the science is twisted and distorted in order to support a desired outcome, rather than to discover an outcome objectively.

And so, from Paul through Timothy, this message is given to you, personally. You are given doctrine. You are given the opportunity to learn doctrine. But do you?

How can you protect that which you do not know? How can you obey God, if you do not learn, what it is that He wants you to know? How can you learn, if you do not commit yourself to a daily study? How can you understand anything that you do not use on a daily basis? How can you make smart decisions, when your wisdom is lacking?

Out of a world of seven-billion people, perhaps only two-billion claim Christianity as their faith. Out of those two-billion, I would guess that less than ten-percent crack open their bibles during the year at some time. And out of that group, I would guess that less than ten-percent study their bibles daily. And out of those far fewer (a very small group) are committed to advancing in their spiritual lives.

Where are you within these respective groups? Do you care? Do you pretend? Or are you committed to making your life the very best that it can possibly be? Will you protect that which God has made available to you?
