Psalm 10:7

Psalm 10:7

7 His mouth [peh] is full [male'] of cursing ['alah] and deceit [mirmah] and fraud: [tok] under his tongue [lashown] is mischief [`amal] and vanity. ['aven] KJV-Interlinear

7 His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness. NASB

The previous verse taught us that the wicked person is wicked from within the depths of his soul. All of his knowledge and beliefs are contained from within his soul, and the content of the soul is that which the individual has learned and subscribed to and accepted during their life.

In our current verse, that content of the soul is expressed in an overt manner and manifested or expressed in their outward life.  Their beliefs are from the inward, and the evidence of their beliefs are expressed outwardly in spoken words.

Cursing is the expression of untruths.  It is more than mere foul language.  All expressions which do not line up with truth, are cursing when spoken or verbally expressed.  Opinions in philosophy, in science interpretations, in social settings, that are not in line with truth, are cursing.

Deceit, comes from the false and the treacherous .  All expressions of untruth, or lies, are by definition, false and therefore deceptive.  Anything false that is expressed to others is an attempt to deceive them.  Whether proactively or passively makes no difference.

Fraud, is an expression of oppression or violence.  The words of untruth are unjust, unreasonable, and oppressive in nature when they try to prevent or override truth.

Under the tongue, is a reference to the poison concealed in the mouth of the snake, concealed at the root of the fang or the tooth.  At the root of, or behind, all that the wicked says, is a poison.  The words may seem harmless or even reasonable to the naïve, but in fact they are deadly poison.

There is no such thing as a victimless crime, though that argument is used often enough for folks that use drugs on themselves, reasoning that it harms no one, or argue an alternative lifestyle, reasoning that is harms no one.  And these and similar approaches in life are in fact deadly to all who use or hear them.

Mischief, is a term that expresses work, toil, trouble, sorrow.  And the wicked bring nothing but burdens and sorrow out from what they have to say, onto others.

And finally vanity, means just that. All that the wicked expresses is nothing more than an emptiness and nothingness, a huge waste of words, that are designed to destroy their listeners, if they are indeed listened to and used to influence the lives of others.
